We have cruised several times, but this was our first time with Holland America, and it will certainly not be our last.
The embarkation at Dover was probably the best organised we have ever witnessed, we were on board 30 minutes after arriving at the port.
The Ryndam is not the newest of ships, but is in very good condition, there was always some maintenance being done, but it never interfered with the passengers. We had a balcony cabin on deck 9 which had everything you could wish for, it was kept immaculate throughout the cruise by the cabin attendant.
The food on board is nothing short of exceptional, even in the Lido (self service), the only problem with the Lido, like most buffet areas on most ships, is getting a table. The main dining room is very well laid out and the service is superb, we were open dining and never had a problem getting a table, which we mainly shared with other people.
The menu had something for every taste and is beautifully cooked and presented.
There was a real mixture of nationalities on board and we met some very lovely people.
The ship boasts a cinema as well as the show lounge. The films shown are quite new releases and if you do not catch it in the cinema, the film is run on a loop in your cabin the next day.
The theatre is very well laid out, I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. The main shows also run 3 times a night, which means that regardless of your dining time, you can see the main show.
I think we only saw two shows as the town guest entertainers were not to our taste, all of the other shows (with the exception of the staff show), were by the resident production team and again not to my taste.
The ship does have a very good resident band called the HAL Cats, and you should definitely try to see them if you enjoy good musicians.
Norway is not the most exciting of places but the scenery is stunning.
On return to Dover, the disembarkation was as flawless as embarkation.
Overall a fantastic cruise on a lovely ship with excellent staff, mew will use Holland America again.
