Oriana Cruise Review by Nefie: Norway Fjords & Arctic circle X411
Norway Fjords & Arctic circle X411
This was our third cruise with P&O & second time on Oriana, embarkation at Southampton went well about 15 mins in total.
The ship is looking a little tied since last year, first moan was we didn't get our cases delivered to our cabin, when we asked our room attendant where the cases are we found them further down the corridor & then had to move them ourselfs to the cabin.
We had a balcony cabin & very happy with the size, the tv is tiny 19 inch with not a lot of choice of channels I guess because the ship is now 19 years old & the tech needs to be upgraded. A lot of people complaining about the air con not working in their cabins .
Public rooms bars are o/k the cinema was good with some of the latest films being shown.
As late bookers in a balcony cabin we were given our dinning preference on board (late dinning in the Oriental restaurant table 52 for six people) no problem with that until the first dinner, the vibration in this More restaurant was so bad it was almost impossible to talk to our fellow table guests. This was a lot worse than last year with the crockery & glases vibrating on the knifes & forks .
The food quality & quantity have gone down considerable, one evening I had pork belly which was just 3 strips of fat, the waiters were very good & replaced this with a different meal.
All the waiters were friendly but looked under stress & were less talkative than normal. It took them two days to introduce themselfs to us . This is possible due to there being less of them & to many tables to serve. With no silver service now you would think they would have more time to talk .
During the crise there was lot of maintenance being done around the ship, fellow cruisers reported floods in cabins on deck 6 & hot & cold water being cut off at different times of the day. We were on deck 10 & didnt have any problems .
Ports of call Alesund, Trondheim, Leknes Lofoten, Geiranger & Bergan all were all very good & scenic with Geiranger being the best location of the trip. Bergan would have been better but there was five cruise ships in port at the time so very crowded.
Overall a good cruise but because of P&O cost cutting we will not be cruising on Oriana again & maybe not with P&O there are a lot of larger ships out there trying to fill places. Less
