Our very first cruise...FABULOUS!

Sail Date: May 2014
Destination: Alaska
Embarkation: Vancouver

We absolutely loved our cruise on the Sun. Yes, it is our first (and will not be the last...we are hooked now!) so we have nothing to compare it with. We thought the ship was a bit "dated" looking from the moment we stepped on board. We were quickly just blown away with the level of service onboard. The decor became just a background for a fabulous cruise with first-rate service. We cannot say enough positives about our steward, Jerico, the cruise director, Candi and the cruise consultant, Natalie. (just to name a few. we were super blown away by the production crew and their shows. such fabulous, young talent. i hope you all go far in your careers.) We did not book any upgraded restaurants wanting instead to just try the basics. We did opt for a wonderful balcony midship on deck 10. We travelled with friends and had three rooms in a row. This made for much fun when whale watching and sailing. No ship or trip is perfect and this was no exception. I would give up making pancakes if i More were the chef. omg...horrible. never did we have a good one and they are teeny tiny. I was told by one of the chefs that they start making these hockey pucks at 0300 and they are kept in serving pans. i don't care who you are, you can't make these even at home, store them and then have them be acceptable hours later. pancakes aside, the food was plentiful, varied (lots of vegetarian options....baked beans for breakfast? odd, but some were eating them.) seating was definitely an issue at the buffet, but keep in mind it was cold and windy on deck. had the weather been warmer, this would not be a problem. we realize this....we realize what is and what is not able to be manipulated by the staff. we dined mostly in the seven seas and four seasons restaurants. both are lovely, elegant and staffed by professional and attentive staff. we do wish there had been more seafood options, afterall we were in alaska and never once saw crab on the menu. just a suggestion. we did not expect 5-star meals (figuring those were reserved for the specialty restaurants) but we were not disappointed in what we ate. i would give them probably 4 stars. i used the internet service from the ship having purchased one of the plans. it was faster than i expected and helped keep me in touch with those back home. though we have nothing to compare it to, we were so very pleased not having any expectations whatsoever. will we cruise again on her? yes, definitely...we are already planning on booking on one of her western caribbean legs perhaps this winter. wonderful room with a great steward. would definitely book this room again. only one problem when they were washing down an above deck while in port in ketchikan. good thing we were not out there taking photos or we would have had our camera ruined. would like more towels in the room, but we always got an extra from the steward each evening.
