Sail Date: May 2014

My husband and I sailed on Grandeur of the Seas to Bermuda on 5/23/14. Our traveling party consisted of ourselves and our 20 year-old daughter Cathy and her 21 year-old friend. We booked two balcony cabins and they were on opposite sides of Deck 7, mid-ship. Our cabin was 7548 and the girls were in 7070, but we never saw their cabin so I can’t comment on it specifically. We have cruised only once before, on the similar-but-different Enchantment of the Seas, on a December cruise to the Bahamas, when it was still sailing out of Baltimore.

Embarkation was easy. Some people were rudely surprised when the parking attendants at the port were unable to process credit card payments, but we had come prepared to pay cash anyway. The line to get through security was not too long and moved relatively quickly. On our previous cruise, we’d been in a suite, so we were apprehensive about the “everyone else” line but it moved very fast and efficiently! We got onboard quickly and easily and sat in the Solarium for lunch. It wasn’t crowded at all.

Staterooms opened promptly at 1. Our balcony cabin had a comfortable bed, two nightstands with drawers, a sofa, a coffee table, and a desk/vanity which contained the refrigerator and the safe. A bottle of sparkling wine was chilling in an ice bucket and there was a plate of chocolate-covered strawberries waiting for us. When I booked the cruise (over the phone with RCCL), the agent had asked if we were celebrating any occasions on board and I told him my husband’s 50th birthday would be during the cruise, so I’m assuming that is the reason these were provided. I certainly didn’t expect them!

Cabin Review

This is a nice location, midway between the Centrum elevators and the forward elevators to the Windjammer. The port-side location gave us a beautiful view while docked in Bermuda. Quite nice for two, but would have been awkward for more than two passengers because the sofa would have occupied all of the free floor space and blocked access to the balcony and to the vanity.
