This was no Jewel

Sail Date: May 2014
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan

What a disappointment the Jewel of the sea was. We had a cabin on deck 9 midship with a balcony and felt like the attitude of the cruise line was that what we paid for was just the bare bones minimum. If we wanted a nicer cruise, better tea, clean water, better food etc it was all extra. The ship had a sewer gas odor and the water in our bathroom sink was frequently brown. Now if I want good water to drink, that was also extra. My time dining is not really my time. They push and pressure from before you ever leave that reservations are really needed if not required for dinner. Show up without one and you end up with a table in the corner by the kitchen. I don't mean to sound bitter because this was really a great cruise. Unfortunely the great part was whenever we got off the ship. Embark and debark were a breeze. Our cabin steward and our eventual waiter were terrific. Guest services were rude and the spa tech. Was more concerned on trying to sell additional products and services than More actually forcusing on the treatment scheduled. They now have footprint analysis but this was so they could sell you a $189.00 insert.

Bottom line, never again on this ship and maybe never again on Royal Caribbean. They have least a bad taste in our mouth and smell in our noses. Less

Room was a typical cruise ship stateroom. Bathroom smelled like sewer gas and the water was sometimes brown coming out of the faucet

Port and Shore Excursions

(5.5)

Don't bother booking a cruise on the ship. Catch a cab from the many and head to Valley Church Beach. One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to. The taxi driver set a time to come back and get us and he was there right on time. We rented jet skis, swam, and relaxed. Negotiate everything......

Turtle Swim

Incredible day. Just 6 of us on the boat. We swam with the turtles, snorkel ship wreck and spent hours on the beach and playing in the water. So glad we book independently because the cruise ship sponsored excursion showed up with about a 100 packed on the boat. Did I say there was six of us.

Port town was not very good but just walk down the beach, rent an umbrella for $5 and chair for $4 each. Bar is right there and the water is great.

Catamaran Day Sail

Boring. A very slow cruise to the pitons with a 20 minute swim in a cover on the way. We were packed in like sardines. Skip this one......

Great shopping and easy to get to with the water taxi. After walking through the many streets found a great bar next to the pier, had lunch and enjoyed a great Jamba Juice.
