Ship Facts: Norwegian Getaway Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Norwegian Getaway Deck Plans
OK Cruise and HORRIBLE Food

The cruise was Ok. I could not believe how BAD the food is. On top of the food quality being horrible, the menu items stay the same 70% of the time each night in all of the main dining rooms. That was a huge disappointment. Room service takes an hour and they charge you for it after midnight. Ate at Cagney's - that was very good but nothing to go crazy about. Ate at the Italian restaurant - very good as well. The buffet is pure poison. I am shocked at how some people say the food was amazing.

Shows - burn the floor was very good. The 1st 10 minutes are slow and then it picks up. Magic show - it was just ok. Some parts are very cheesy and not realistic. Food was fair to poor and do not pay for the premium seats. The difference between the premium and regular seats is maybe 1 foot. It is a joke and another way for them to nickel an dime you. Legally blonde - fair but not my cup of tea. I liked the farewell show. That was a nice touch. Comedy show was great but it's the same material if you go more than 1x which we did.

Service was ok throughout. My steward made the beds and put new linens in for us but never wiped down the mirrors or other parts in our room. We had to ask for the room to get vacuumed - crumbs on the floor and the steward ignores it?? F&B service was just ok too. Always had to ask for refills. Tables were never pre-bussed all that well.

We took our 3 kids with us. We have a 11, 9, and 2 year old. The camp closes a lot for no real reason and you can't leave kids under 3. They have a room (more like a closet) for kids under 3 to play in with a few toys but you have to stay with them at all times. The older kids enjoyed the camp when it is open.

Pool area is super small. Can't figure out why they made a tiny pool for such a large ship. Kids play area and water slides were awesome! Ropes course, walk the planks, bungee stuff was all very cool but closed a lot even during sea days. That was a disappointment.

Firework show lasted 2 minutes tops if that. Small gift shop area but nice stuff.

St. Maarten was nice. We took the water taxi and went to the beach. St. Thomas has some good shopping right by the ship. Nicer than St. Maarten and not with people bugging you every second to buy something from them. Bahamas - disgusting city. Unless you have an excursion - don't get off the boat - I agree with the other reviewers there. We did Blue Lagoon Island. Waste of money. The boat ride they are supposed to point out celebrities houses and other things - never happened. When we get to the island the beach itself is full of large rocks and hard to walk on. No blue water. The buffet lunch was gross. We found a hair and a piece of paper in the burger. You also waste 40 minutes standing in line waiting for the food taking time away. They charge you for everything else - just ridiculous. You will only see dolphins if you get lucky and they happen to be feeding them for 5 minutes on the way back to the boat back. Don't think you get to stand there and see them as you choose like we were led to think.

Internet - you have to pay for it plus a $3.95 service fee and it is SOOOO SLOW. 50x times worse than dial up. I had to use for work purposes or I would not have used it.

We had fun overall, but our expectations were a lot higher. NCL knows how to put on a great party and they did that! Service needs to be stepped up and the food needs a major change. It's a very clean and beautiful ship. We made the best of it and had a great time but they didn't do anything to stand out and lock us in to only cruise with them.
