Fabulous Experience

Sail Date: May 2014
Destination: Mediterranean
Embarkation: Barcelona

My husband and I were 'cruise virgins' when we arrived on board on 8 May in Barcelona for our twelve day cruise of the Mediterranean! What a wonderful time we had during our twelve day cruise - the wonderful welcoming, friendly staff, the luxurious surroundings (amazing), the scrumptious food, the entertainment, the pool area (helped of course by the hot sunny weather we had every single day), the destinations, etc. I had been a little apprehensive that twelve days may have been too long, but it definitely wasn't.

There were however two little annoyances - our statement (which was magnificent by the way) had an obstructed view (which we did not know about until we arrived), and the internet access was very expensive.

BUT..... this was one of the best experiences we have had - and will we be checking out another cruise as we advance into retirement years? ABSOLUTELY SOLD ON CRUISING! Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Equinox 6186

Our stateroom was wonderful, but had an obstructed view from the lifeboat tenders - we were initially disappointed as we did not know this, but overall, didn't spend too much time on the deck, but it was annoying when berthing that the view was obstructed. This should be noted on the description.

Port and Shore Excursions

Livorno was pretty grubby and unkempt - probably typical of Italy ..... but had good shopping and markets.

Salerno...... the port near Naples was also grubby and unkempt...... and we got stranded up at the Castle (it was closed on the day we visited it) - no buses returning, so we had to walk and then hitch a ride with another three couples to get back to the ship. No notices to say that buses not running, or that the castle was actually shut on a Monday, in fact the bus system was terrible with electronic signs etc in the city, but nothing on them and not much help from the people who sold the bus tickets...... it was quite a long way (about seven kms).
