I chose this cruise primarily for the itinerary..but also because of the ship, and certainly regarding those, i was not disappointed...however once on board, i became disappointed with what felt like flying with a low fares airline...for example..silly things like "you want to go to deck 18...thats 10 euros each please"--"you want water with your dinner---thats 2 euros 99 please" etc etc---ok its not breaking the bank, but made the overall feel of things quite tacky.
The staff in the buffet are exhausted, irritable, and god help you if you accidentally get in their way...most of the time there is not much food left, lots of it is taken by Msc crew who push past you and fill their own plates, and you the paying passenger can have whats left, the breakfast resembles a scene from Hunger Games where you have to fight to first of all find a clean plate....then fight for what food is left..then spend half an hour going around trying to find a seat..think im exaggerating? Try it .
Disembarkation is a nightmare...we explained that we had a flight to catch and need to leave the boat as quicklly as possible...they agreed that 0945 we would be met in a lounge and escorted off the boat...at 1020 we were still waiting..so decided to leave the boat ourselves..we were told that we could..but were told they had no idea where our bag was...we eventually found it..and thankfully made our flight.
All in all, it was a mixed experience...i dont know why we had to pay 7 euros a day service charge, as their is no service..the crew hate passengers..and you are just a nuisance..i understand spanish and italian..so i understood every word that was said on board..unfortunately.
I would have told them this at customer services on the last day, but the queue of people complaining was across the room.....try it..maybe i was just unlucky...but expect nothing..then you wont be disappointed.
Definately take the shuttle bus with this one, its at least an hours walk from the ship to Pila Square...save your energy for Dubrovniks beautiful walls..bus is about 20 mins
They encourage you to take a shuttle bus to the Grand Basar..this is not necessary...its possible to walk from the ship to the Basar in 15 mins..its just over the bridge..and i walk slowly----the excursion we saw was lots of people being rushed around the sights of Istanbul..then hoarded into more shops that MSC have a deal wwith...avoid it..take a hop on hop off bus..do your own thing.
This is actually a street in the middle of nowhere with lots of shops that MSC seem to have a deal with..there is an excursion to Olympia if you wish, but there are tours which are cheaper from this "street"..there was a train once..but the train company went bankrupt..so the station sits there a sorry reflection of its former self
