Fiasco!

Sail Date: May 2014
Destination: Europe - British Isles & Western
Embarkation: Southampton

We've been on a couple of cruises before, and this was our first (and last) time with MSC.

This was a "taster cruise" travelling overnight from Southampton to Guernsey - returning overnight the following day.

The good bits......

Ship is beautifully clean and very smart and well appointed.

Cabin (inside) was a good size and agin, very clean and thoughtfully laid out.

The bad bits...

Embarkation was chaotic, we were herded into a marquee where we were kept waiting for two hours (some other passengers were longer than that) before eventually boarding. No complimentary drinks and we had to pay £1.50 for drinks to remain hydrated.

One on board the hassle continued: queues EVERYWHERE. We had to queue to buy our drinks package, queue at reception to get our key cards updated and even after this, when we got to our room - no bags!

We set off to the nearest bar to get a drink: just two sullen members of staff taking More orders for drinks and there was almost mutiny on board as an ever increasing queue of passengers tried to get a drink. We tried some of the other bars but there was simply not enough staff around, and those that were, clearly didn't want to be there. It was almost as if half the staff had deserted at Southampton!

Food in the restaurant on the first night was awful: several courses sent back because it was inedible (eg over salty or simply unpleasant) and service by the robotic uninterested staff painfully slow. We complained: once to the Maître de and again at Reception.

Disembarkation at Guernsey seemed to be well organised and we attended when our allocated slot was called over the annoy, but then joined the longest queue of the holiday. Everyone (and I mean everyone) was complaining about the same things: Embarkation, queues, food, queues, offhand staff and queues! Did I mention the queues?

Dinner in the restaurant on day two was a transformation but frankly it was too little too late and our mini-cruise was already ruined.

Final insult was when we we told to be out of our cabin at 6:30am for an 8:15 disembarkation. We've never been asked to be out this early.

Overall we are very, very disappointed and cannot recommend this ship or operator. Less

Decent sized, well appointed, and scrupulously clean. Very comfortable bed.
