The Ecstasy is an old ship, small and cramped. If price is the most important consideration on choosing a ship, the Ecstasy fits the bill. The crew and staff work tirelessly to keep it clean and neat. Every way I turned somebody was working; from washing windows to repairing floors. But because it is small the on-board activities are limited with only a couple shops, a small casino and smaller clubs. The evening entertainment is extremely crowded no matter where you go.
The food is moderate, both in selection and portions. The buffet on the Panoramic deck offers all the morning staples with nothing fantastic. No chef to make omelets, no special items to try. Lunch is the same, nothing fancy. Cold cuts if you want them, a few selection of hot items, desserts that need a lot of help. The puddings were rubbery, the cakes were dry as toast. Ice cream can really help dry cakes.
The pool grill offers the standard hot dogs and hamburgers but the demand is no huge the quality goes down. I felt really bad for the guys behind the grill because they couldn't get a break with dozens of people waiting for everything from burgers to fries.
Without the balcony it would have been impossible for 3 adults. Having the fold down top bunk is a great idea. This cabin was in the very back of the ship, right over the engines and props. Noisily, with lots of motions. Don't reserve this cabin if you are prone to motion sickness. The bathroom had problems the first night but maintenance fixed it with one phone call. For a long distance cruise the cabin would have been impossibly small and cramped. It desperately needs fans tucked in corners for ventilation when the balcony doors are closed.
