We are seasoned travelers, with over 26 cruises since 2002. We have sailed on Regent, HAL, Oceania, and even NCL. We thought that Celebrity would be,upon analysis, our line of choice. we always sail on concierge class or above. Aqua-class has been our choice in the last 6 sailings, the previous one being in October 13,in the Mediterranean.
I have no concerns about the fact that the ship is older, with a lot of rust and somewhat worn -out carpets. That comes with the territory of the Millennium, buyer beware.
I am concerned with the experience we had; we had to wait until 4:30pm to get into our cabin. We were in code red for gastro-intestinal concerns. We experienced the staff as surly from the get-go. Upon inquiring about the time for the drill, we were told curtly to check our daily sheet. How could we, considering we had not had access to our cabin??? Upon mentioning the above, the staff still did not provide any answer nor cared to find out. Bad start.
First morning at BLU: would like pressed grapefruit juice: it is all gone. Would like nuts in muesli: not available. Would like berries: none to be had. First moments in a cruise set the tone.
Don't expect your bowl of fruit to be varied: apples and more apples. No more flowers , apparently.... Unless you insist. no more daily chocolates, unless you insist. Our steward said they did not have any; we found that another guest had managed to get some by phoning guest services. No shower caps, unless you ask. the mineral water was ok at the beginning of the cruise, but the last 4 days we got some unknown Minnesota water.
Our experience of the Persian lounge was frankly horrible. Don't expect a well-lit area, airy and with soothing fragrance. It is dark and dingy. There are no individual heated chairs. The three separate steam rooms were not warm enough, and you have to trust that it was not my opinion only. The showers did not function properly. the changing room was not well heated. You will also note that the staff did not supervise entry ; not that it mattered, as there were very few customers, once they tried it...
The food at BLU, while having the potential to be excellent was often cold ,inaccurate vis a vis the order and slow. Service was uneven. People complained, and there was some improvement. I was served corn syrup, rather than maple syrup as per the menu, and the server could not appear to understand my questioning...
We attempted room service for breakfast once. Everything was cold, not even tepid.
One person has posted a reference to receiving a form from the hotel manager, Mr Lamb, which would have allowed a place to indicate our disappointment. We never received it.
the ports were fine, as were the excursions. The entertainment was also good, meeting the Celebrity standards.
