This was only our second cruise. P & O Azura was our first - it was fantastic.
It was fortunate that we read Miss Pip's review dated 12/01/2010. I took a copy with me. We were allocated this room a week before we travelled. We did not book early enough to be able to choose a room number. So we thought we would give the cruise line the benefit of the doubt first on the basis that the ship had had a refurbishment in 2011.
On the day we boarded (which took a very long time - they need to see what P & O do as they were so efficient!) we 'decided to approach Guest Relations before we actually unpacked. Referring to Miss Pip's review we asked for another room but were told that there were no spare rooms at all on the ship. So we said we would review the situation.
Miss Pip was absolutely correct - the noise was awful. We went for a 'rest' only to be woken at 6.00 am with dragging of chairs and tables. This was the case throughout the day when passengers More
also dragged chairs and tables to accommodate their party numbers - you could not have a 'rest' before dinner after a long early day off ship. We could stand it no longer and complained several times. It was only when we completed the 'how is your trip so far' card that we were taken seriously. We gave them suggestions on how to resolve the noise problem. Like other reviews - we were offered the complimentary meal + bottle of wine in the a la carte restaurant - which was beautiful but all we wanted was some peace and quiet in our room!! We were also given a small gesture of money off our bill at the end of the cruise - which was not nearly enough. Guest Relations were very gracious and polite and tried their best to accommodate in other ways. They must have to do this on every trip - they probably think that some people will put up with it and just wait and see if they complain. We have to say that the room was fabulous. A family room with a very large verandah but the noise just took the edge off our holiday.
WHY - did they not address this problem when the refurbishment took place - it could have been so simple.
We did find the ship great in other ways -
Staff - all very accommodating and pleasant.
Very clean - staff constantly offered anti bacterial hand wash at dinner areas and getting on and off ship.
Food - buffet on top deck was a bit dried out some times.
Breakfast - very busy and they did sometimes stop serving at some of the 'serveries' which our American guests were particularly upset about.
In all - we had a fabulous trip - just a shame about the lack of sleep!
The cabin was large. It had a double bed with wardrobes and bathroom in the first area. There was a lounge section (2 settees that turned in to beds for children. TV in each section. A fantastic veranda with 2 loungers and a table and 2 chairs. Very clean and in good condition.
