Of my 30 cruises, this one easily ranks in the bottom three. I’ll jump straight to the nitty gritty.

Cabin Steward – We never met the person, and have no idea who it was. An introduction was expected and would have been appreciated. Wash cloths were not replaced in our stateroom, and dirty glasses were not replaced. Instead, our steward took one dirty glass that was half full, and placed the paper cover over it. Ridiculous. We went to the bar to obtain clean glasses which was quicker than calling housekeeping and waiting around.

Bar service – On embarkation day, we headed to the Garden Zen bar. This was about as non-Zen as you can get in a bar. Our server was non-attentive in every possible way – helping tables who arrived after us, but not asking for our order, getting our order wrong, voiding our ticket but not REALLY voiding our ticket, charging us twice for a bucket of Corona, and serving us Coronas with lemon rather than lime. Really? Ask them to replace your lemon with a lime anyway. They’re doing this as a cost-saving measure because lime is very expensive right now. I addressed the service situation first with the server, with no resolution, and then with Guest Services. I simply wanted the refund for the voided ticket, and the removal of her gratuity on that ticket ($2.55). Instead, after explaining everything to Guess Services, MSC gave us $90 in credits back to our account because of the mistakes one server made when placing an order for one bucket of beer. Yes, it was all over a bucket of beer. At least they more than made up for what I was owed, which was unexpected and appreciated.

Cabin Review

Divina’s cabins are nicer than the cabins on MSC’s other ships. I’ve toured others, and Divina at least provides more space. If you’re booking an inside, look for the square-shaped inside cabin (like 12193) on the deck plan as opposed to the traditional rectangular-shaped inside cabin. They are more spacious than the other insides BUT you WILL hear sounds of cabins opening/closing very early in the morning at about 6am or so. If you cannot sleep through this, do not choose this cabin type. The square cabins have service cabinets surrounding the opposite side of two sides of the cabin walls.
