This was the first time we ever joined any sort of cruise and I was not convinced I would be as pleased in retrospect as indeed I am.
All arrangements made by Viking were meticulous and clearly explained. Transitions between flights and our long ship worked very smoothly. Our accommodation in an Explorer Suite on board far exceeded my expectations. It was well appointed, very clean, surprisingly spacious and the welcome touches (fresh flowers, fresh fruit, delicious cookies and a bottle of champagne) were wonderful.
All food during the entire cruise was superb. The quality and presentation were outstanding - 5* standard. My only criticism on this ship was that the dining room experience, only one sitting at multiple-sized tables, was uncomfortably loud, difficult for conversation and the service was slow because of the numbers of guests dining at once.
We were pleased to discover that we were granted a dispensation to choose the forward bar restaurant for More
dinner (which normally offered only a limited menu) and were given the full menu from which to make our choices. This completely enhanced our pleasure in evening dining.
The organised tours were all without pressure to join and were very well managed. At each stop we were divided into smaller groups and provided with an expert guide. Our personal pace was taken into consideration when groups were allocated so that even those of us less sprightly were able to keep up. The River Danube provides some magnificent castles, palaces and shoreline excursions also with some awe-inspiring lock engineering along the route. Sometimes nighttime noise was a little intrusive but on the whole, with comfortable beds and bedding, we slept well and we thoroughly enjoyed this river cruise.314 Less
