Ship Facts: Golden Princess Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Golden Princess Deck Plans
Alaska the Beautiful

Seattle. Hampton Inn Downtown Suites. Great hotel walking distance from Space Needle area. Booked limo from airport to hotel thru Hampton. $40. Ate at the Sky City Restaurant, Space Needle. Pricey, but great food and wonderful views. Recommended if you are in Seattle one time and can afford it. Check menu online, then call to make reservation. Took shuttle to Pier 91. $7 each for 15 min ride.

Embarkation. Poor. Arrived around noon. Over 1 hour to board ship. Seems like everyone wanted to board early. Ship left 1 hour late, which seemed to impact the rest of the cruise. (Ships cannot 'make up' lost time.)

The ship is typical Princess and provides all of the standard amenities. Food very good. Ate one night at Crown Grill, which was very good.

Arrived in Juneau 1 hour late, which impactted our Princess excursion. Mendenhall Glacier was great. Take 2 mile hike to Nugget Trail Falls, if you have the time and are able to do so.

Skagway. We took Chilkoot Tours for Rail/Bus Excursion. $179 each vs $209 each for Princess (BBQ chicken lunch included). Chilkoot was excellent and highly recommended. Avg on tour 12-20. On our tour 9. We had the last car on the White Pass Train, which allowed great picture taking from back platform. Minibus picked us up in Fraser, BC. Must have passports for this tour. We went to Carcross, Yukon Territory. Much snow on mts and lakes still frozen over.

Glacier Bay Natl Park. Spectacular! Book Port side room.

Ketchikan. Walked around town. Everything close. Go to Creek Street and Historical Museum. Also SE Alaska Discovery Center. Over 1 hour late leaving. Not sure why, but at Embarkation time, the line to get on the ship was still 2 blocks long. This impactted our time in Victoria BC. All tours, except 2 had to be cancelled.

Alaskan views from ship were spectacular.

Princess (and others) offer EZ Check for passengers. $20 each. Highly recommended, if you need to catch a flight on diembarkation day. They will provide air boarding passes and check your luggage to your final destination. Don't have to fool with luggage. Then you can be among first groups leaving the ship.

Disembarkation. Excellent because we were among the first leaving the ship.

Altogether a wonderful experience.
