The Sunshine is a nice ship, but nice is a four letter word. The decor is dull and unimaginative. The only exciting area is the third deck lobby with the atrium and glass elevators. The casino is spacious with a nice selection of slots. Casino wait staff were very friendly and attentive.

Dining room food was a better than usual. My compliments to the head chef. We filled two of only 14 spaces at the Chef's Table eight course gourmet dinner with wine included. It was excellent. This is offered only once during the cruise with an upcharge, Dinner in the steakhouse was also well worth the extra $$$.

Be sure to catch performances by The Swamp Band, made up of members of the Sunshine crew.

Cabin Review

Cabin Spa Suite

While Carnival did an admirable job creating the Sunshine, the Spa Suite 12001 did not live up to its billing. The promised 24 hour room steward service, "Just dial 35 and i will be there.", was a complete farce. Oftentimes the line was busy for long periods and even when contact was made service was very slow in coming. Everyday there was something missing when our stateroom was made up.............washcloths, drinking glasses, ice, the menus you put on the door at night for room service breakfast......... Our first night out the sliding glass doors on the bath tub kept sliding on the tracks and banging against the tile walls. it took the four people to correct the problem. The first three, cabin steward, housekeeping, and plumber had no clue as to how to prevent the doors from moving. Finally an engineer arrived who noticed that the first and the third sections attach to brackets on the wall. When they are in their fixed positions the middle section cannot move. Does it seem to you that housekeeping and the cabin steward should know this? I certainly expected them to. We had to ask for fresh bars of soap on the third day as ours were getting small and gummy. I mean, this is a Spa Suite!! I expected excellent service. The suite itself is very nice, though not as large as I thought it would be. The sitting area has no ambiance. It does, however, allow one person to sleep late or go to bed early and the other tp be awake watching TV. The fridge is on the parlor side. The bath room is on the bedroom side.A word of caution - the walls are thin. We were awakened one morning at 4:30 by the lady in the next cabin rehearsing for the role of Meg Ryan in the restaurant scene from "When Harry Met Sally". Storage space is ample with three closets. Each side of the suite has built in desk unit with vanity. It can sleep three with the living room sofa making out into a hard twin bed. The vthroom is large as ships go with a jetted tub. The balcony has chaise lounge, two chairs and a table.
