Just returned from the Celebrity Summit, repositioning from San Juan to Bayonne,NJ.
Had been on the Summit in 2012 after the makeover. Balcony cabin was adequate. Needs to be kept cleaner. Had issues with flushing and found others had issues with leaks as there were buckets in the corridor on Deck 7. Activities on board were limited. Issues with dinner menu food choices. Things have certainly changed in two years. Previously all the choices on the menu looked wonderful and you wanted to try more than one. Now, you had difficulty choosing one. Have stopped the wonderful brunch on the last full day at sea. Desserts need to be revamped. How many times do you have to have chocolate cake on the menu? I did not hear any celebrations at the dining venues,i.e., birthday cake, anniversary cakes, etc.
They even had live music at dinner time, i.e., sometimes a harpist, pianist...nothing now. What happened to the A Cappella singers?
Activities were few and far between. They forgot that some people do NOT get off the ship in port, but had nothing for them to do. How about keeping the dining room open for lunch even when in port?
How about showing a movie in the theater during the day? How about letting us hear announcements in our cabin? Why is there a knob for volume of announcements and nothing is heard through them?
This was possibly the worst Captain Club Hostess I have ever encountered on a cruise ship and I have taken over 40 cruises. When she was visible, she was unapproachable, curt , and needs a course in personality.
However, on the plus side, I found all the cabin stewards, dining room staff, sommeliers, especially Gede , our waiter, and Olye, our sommelier, to be wonderful. Soris and Jordan were terrific. All the guest relations staff was wonderful, professional, and helpful, especially Hugo. Anita, the future cruise manager, was lovely and accommodating. The Cafe Al Bacio staff , Alex, and all of them were busy all day long, but were always patient and gracious to everyone. They all work very hard all day long to keep up with the crowds of people.
Disembarkation gets slightly backed up with the busses. Perhaps this can be improved.
Entertainment needs upgrading since repeat cruisers need some new routines.
What happened to the ice carvings? Why are the Captain Club activities and social events held in the middle of the day, when you need to be dressed up and at that time most cruisers are at the pool in bathing suits.? How about having them later in the afternoon, before dinner, so everyone will be dressed and then have the social meeting with Captain and maybe we will attend.
Also, the Captain Leonardos was wonderful. He was visible and approachable and took a genuine interest in his guests. I cannot say the same for the Hotel Director, who was not visible.
