My previous cruising experience was with Cunard on the QM2, so I was a little leery when a friend suggested a trip on the Carnival Pride to the Bahamas. What I found is they both do what they're meant to, and they're 180 degrees out of sync with each other. The Pride is very much a fun ship. Popular music is played at loud volumes, people yell and scream like they're at a hockey game, bartenders go to great lengths to ensure you're well lubricated, but most of all the crew wants you to have a blast. Drinking is the watchword of the day, everyday. Many people get the Cheers program, which is essentially up to 15 drinks in a 24 hour period for $50 daily. This has the desired affect of getting you to drink more than usual to get your money's worth. The casino packs everyone in and doesn't discriminate in whose money they take. I wasn't impressed with the dining room, and stopped eating there after one day. I preferred the omelettes and deli in the Mermaid restaurant, with burgers on the grill as well. The specialty restaurant, David's Steakhouse, is well worth the $35 supplement. One thing I picked up on: Carnival lures many cruisers in with ridiculously low fares, then markets the heck out of pictures, drinks, spa, casino, trinkets, or any other money making opportunities you can think of. It's okay really, as long as you realize it and make good decisions. I had an aft cabin with extended balcony that yielded awesome and expansive views. The aft room did vibrate a bit, but certainly not enough to disturb me. In fact, it may have helped me sleep.

To sum this all up, this trip was perfect for a couple of old service buddies who wanted to have a bunch of drinks, howl at the moon, and just enjoy a break from the mundane. To repeat, it does what it does, well!
