First the good stuff - California coast has some wonderful destinations and iconic sights including LA itself for the Holywood scene, San Francisco for the Golden Gate Bridge and street scenes, beautiful Santa Barbara for beaches and shopping, San Diego wonderfully bright and fresh - can't really saÅ· the same though for Ensenada in Mexico which was a little bit 'iffy'.
Not so good
The ship (Crown) was OK but it is showing its age a little bit now, and lacks the sparkle that the newer ships today have.
Food was fine both in main dining and in the buffet.
Staff, our steward (Standly) was excellent and kept our mini suite in tip top çondition and he always had a smile. Can't say the same for the so called guest services/front desk team most of whom looked like they were sucking lemons most of the time, really it felt like they did not want to be there at all !
A word of warning if buying gifts on Crown pre cruise as they will not be in your suite when you arrive - all you get to hand out are pieces of paper, how rubbish is that ! And if you order flowers they may not be in your suite when you board which sort of defeats the purpose and when you make a complaint to the so called CUSTOMER team well you may as well talk to the nearest wall for all they seemed to care.
Boarding - I've never seen longer queues. We were picked up at LA hotel by coach and dropped (dumped) at cruise terminal. We were amazed at the length of the lines and all the Priness staff just left us to fend for ourselves - they really need to sort this out. Leaving the ship though was very smooth with no issues at all.
Entertainment - shows were very short, about 30 minutes and while they were OK they were over in no time. Also their timing made it difficult for those of us on màin dining at 8pm. Bars and other entertainment was ok too though on this cruise many folk were off to bed early it seemed. Could definitely do better and I've seen better on other cruises.
We've cruised with RCI, MSC, Carnival and now PRincess and I would rank them in that order. So while we really enjoyed the cruise (fabulous weather in April helped) and the destinations I was a little disappointed more so by some staff (except steward and main dining waitress/waiter who were very good) that really seemed to give the impression the paying guest were an annoyance to their day...........
So overall I would do this cruise again for the destinations but would hope to see an overall happier and customer friendly crew - but I would not pre buy gifts again - I really don't understand their approach here unless of course it's about saving a few dollars.
