Good Cruise But P&O Could Improve
This was our 8th cruise but we hadn't been on P&O for 5 years. I know one shouldn't compare apples with oranges but after sailing on the Diamond Princess in December 2013 the poor old Pearl just can't compare. Just little things like no bag provided for towels, no water brought to the table in the buffet etc. Considering we paid virtually the same price on the Diamond, it's head and shoulders above the Pearl.
The staff were good.
The food was just ok in the Waterfront - the same old complaints about steaks not being done as ordered but also some of the dishes just didn't taste good.
We ate breakfast and lunch in the buffet and found the food realy nice, especially the salads and the carvery. Drinks are expensive - take your own soft drinks.
We were really lucky with the weather. Isle of Pines was great - a short walk from the tender wharf brings you to a lovely beach.
We did the Noumea Explorer hop-on hop-off bus - great value at $15 - More buy the tickets at the cruise terminal.
Loved Mare - we paid the $15 for the shuttle to Yejele Beach - what a beautiful place! Amazing beach!
Lifou is also really lovely.
To sum it all up, would we go on P&O again? Yes, maybe, if the price is right. Did we enjoy ourselves? Well, being on a ship is really wonderful and not worrying about cooking, shopping and cleaning is great. I just think P&O are cutting corners and it shows and unlike Princess, P&O don't have the LGBT get-togethers which is a dissapointment. Less

Cabin review: Pacific Pearl 5217
A good sized cabin really close to the aft elevators - very handy for going to the Waterfront and the buffet. It was in good condition and very clean. We were a bit worried about it being next door to the door to the crew mess but we didn't hear anything. Also a lot less movement when the sea got rough than other parts of the ship.
