My husband and I had a great vacation on the Breakaway's April 6 sailing. We took NJ Transit & a cab to the port and were quickly onboard by 12:30 p.m. The ship is beautiful, elegant and well planned. This was our 4th cruise & 1st on Norwegian. We had our first balcony room on the 9th deck. It was very nice & spacious...the bathroom & shower great.
FOOD: Loved the food. We ate all over the ship. Taste & Savor are smaller dining rooms and very nice for couples. The Manhattan Room is beautiful & has live music during dinner. We did Moderno (excellent...the salad bar amazing) and Le Bistro (not my favorite meal, but ok). The chicken pot pie in O'Sheehan's is delicious. Had lunch in the Uptown Grill (sun deck) and it is delicious....went back the last day for peach pie right out of the oven!
PORTS: We had 1 day left on Disney park hopper passes from 1997 & used them to go to Epcot for the day. Had some rain, but a delicious dinner in Italy. Missed Great Stirrup Cay, but those things happen. Nassau - got a day pass at Melia Resort on Cable Beach. Three beautiful pools and a spectacular beach. It was well worth the $30 per person or $50 pp with lunch & only a $1.25 jitney ride from the dock.
SERVICE: Norwegian really impressed us with excellent, friendly & professional service. All of the wait staff were terrific. Staff at the Excursions desk, Guest Services & the Internet Cafe were all wonderful.
ENTERTAINMENT: Loved Rock of Ages, Burn the Floor and Howl at the Moon (went twice)! Some very talented people at all three. The comedy magician was just ok, and we didn't care for the Second City improv.
CRUISE DIRECTOR TEAM: Every one of them were terrific & talented. Especially liked Simon, Scooter and the Asian guy who did great impressions. One night in the dining room, Simon stopped by our table to ask how we were enjoying the cruise, what we liked, what they could do better. He took notes & asked for our room no. The next day a plate of candy/desserts and a thank you note were delivered to our cabin.
LOVED: The Atrium....always something to do there....trivia, music, dancing...always entertaining. Also enjoyed the crew talent show (last day). When you return to the ship in Nassau, a large group of the crew (waiters, cabin stewards, everyone) is there to greet you by dancing on both sides. They hand out drinks, jello & cold cloths. It was so much fun to watch them dance & have a good time because they work so hard & it felt very welcoming. Loved that!
COULD BE BETTER: The ship has a kid's pool & water slide area, but only one pool for adults. There may have been another pool in the Haven, not sure. However, the sun deck has plenty of lounge chairs.
Overall, we loved this cruise for a convenient getaway to warmer weather without flying. It is a great value, a beautiful ship & you will have a great vacation!
