This cruise got off to a rocky start with a delayed boarding due to Norovirus being on board the 2 cruises previous to ours. But it was worth the wait of a delayed 4 hour board because it seemed to clean up the nasty bug. After 3 days we were release from our Code Red.
Our cabin was great as we splurge and purchased a mini-suite this time. (D407) Excellent room with plenty of space and storage area. Never used all of it. Having a tub/shower combo is great. Extra seating area makes a lot of difference when you want to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the crowds. We definitely enjoyed it. Not sure if I like the completely open balcony or not though.
Our room steward, Sandie, was excellent. He always asked it everything was ok. Never wanted for anything and room was always kept clean and refreshed. He even left me a little gift the last evening we where on board. Such a special extra touch is always nice.
Morning room service (which is one of our highlights on all our cruises) was good the first day but from then on it got slower and slower. On the 3rd morning it never showed up so we just went for breakfast. Got a message later in the morning that our breakfast order was ready and they would bring it as soon as we called. Oh well.....
As far as the ship goes, we have had better cruises. Entertainment in the Princess Theater was good and so was the comedian. Tried to catch more then one of his shows but it you didn't get there early there was no seating available. There was no sail away party and only one deck party that we know of which was held at 9:30 at night. They did have a live band but all they did was play for entertainment in between movies. Most of the afternoon entertainment was held in the Piazza which has limited viewing area and if you needed to use the stairs sometimes it made it difficult. This cruised seemed to rely on the 'Movies Under the Stars' to much.
Weather was not real great on sea days and pools were a little chilly. We love a morning swim and didn't get to do that the first 2 mornings. Had we realized it was Spring Break for some of California, not sure we would have booked this cruise. Most of the hot tubs were taken over by kids during the day and evening.
Staff on board were just kind of there I guess. Did get a lot of 'hello's and smiles though. Crooners bar had the most friendly staff and seems to go over and above to take care of you.
Food was very lacking as far as taste and variety on this cruise. Have had better in the Horizon Court. Two different days we tried to eat lunch there and found nothing to our liking so had either the grill outside or pizza. Both were very good. Dined in the MDR twice and sat with some very nice people. Food was ok but not great and service seemed kind of rushed.
We did realize that having only 2 port days (which we thought we would enjoy more sea days) is not enough. Maybe it was because there wasn't a hole lot to do on the ship. Do enjoy PV and Cabo but have noticed that the prices for meals in Cabo have gone way up. Was the main topic on board the ship after we set sail. Still have a lot of fun during our port days and weather was great.
Will we sail back to the Mexican Rivera? Not sure. Will we sail with Princess again? Most definitely. Was this one of our better cruises? No.
