Eleventh cruise and fourth on Royal and the wow I was expecting never happened, it was more a wow of disapointment. The ship is a great replacement for Monarch of the Seas. But when I had a better time on that smaller ship for a longer cruise, that says a lot. I am 37 and went with my older girlfriend on the first short cruise since i started cruising back in the late 80's. I have cruised on other lines and still kept Royal at the top of my list until last year when Norwegian Epic bumped Royal to second. We sailed on Friday April 18th, 2014

Embarkation took a lot longer than I expected, "priority check-in" doesn't mean anything when everyone is Gold after one trip. As usual first thing to do is drop off your stuff and pick up the compass on the way to the Windjammer. It was busy but wasn't hard to find a clean empty table, the wait staff were very busy but still hospitable. Food was good but it was the same selection everyday! I found it odd that if you wanted pizza you had to go to the back of the ship in the Solarium to get it. It wasn't available in the Windjammer for lunch. Dinner was good with small minute steaks available and Sushi. We went to the dinning room once and wasn't too impressed there either. Being on My-Time dinning we had to wait for the entire table of eight to fill up before we could get a menu and order. Needless to say the bread was gone instantly. Service was good and the food quality was good but not great. No wow's here. By the way Espresso is not free like on other cruiselines.

I Don't gamble but had to pass through Casino Royale and found the tobacco smoke wasn't as bad as other's reviewed or as bad like on other ships this size.

Cabin Review

I was upgraded from an inside to an outside at the front on deck 4. Room was nice and bigger than on Monarch with a square window, lots of storage space, plenty of lighting, and a big LCD TV on a swinging arm. In room safe, hairdryer, and accessible power outlets so I didn't use my extension cord. But I searched and found no RCI pen or stationary. Later I found no chocolates with turn down service? What gives? The cabin is located underneath the promenade deck but since it was so far forward the only foot steps I heard were from the occational crewmember. During the late night you could hear big doors closing somewhere but it wasn't bad. I am a light sleeper and I still got a good nice rest, every night. Since we didn't go to Coco Cay I didn't have the displeasure of hearing and feeling the anchor drop which was four cabins away. We did feel the whirring of the electric motors as the lines were being lashed to the dock. And being forward means you will feel the bow thrusters when docking. As for the TV it was nice and big but had no pay-per-view or movie channels with dedicated movies like on other cruise lines. No interactivity on this system, only about 14 channels mostly sports, RCI sales, CNN International, HLN, TNT, ESPN+2, Cartoon Network, and channels with popular programs dubbed into Portuguese, Spanish, and a couple other languages. The TV has all the modern connections available including HDMI, component, and composite. Luckily I brought my old portable dvd and hooked it up. Didn't think I would need it but read my review and see why I'm thankful I lugged it on board.
