My wife and I and 2 other couples decided to take this cruise based on the itinerary and that one of the couples had previously sailed with NCL. The highlights of the cruise were several excursions, Jose and Patti in the Atrium, the bathroom in our cabin and disembarkation. Other than that, there wasn't much good to say about the ship. Apparently NCL has decided to build mega-ships at the expense of maintaining and upgrading the existing fleet. For no apparent reason many of the bars and lounges were utilized just before dinner for 'events' (some private) and most seemed to close early in the evening - the hunt for a quiet late evening nightcap was frustrating. There wasn't a day that we didn't find something broken/not working (usually the juice dispensers in the Garden Cafe), something in need of cleaning (the plexiglass on our balcony was never cleaned) or what appeared to be a lack of concern by the senior staff. The couple that had previously sailed with NCL described it as disgusting. Security on board was usually nowhere to be seen, & consequently in the late evening groups of teens could be seen wandering the ship without any semblance of supervision. Worst for me was the NCL smoking policy (both parents died from issues caused by smoking) which seemed to allow/encourage smoking just about anywhere - there was even an ashtray in our bathroom. The interior public areas of the ship always smelled due to the proximity of the casino, breezes blowing in from the Promenade and pool areas or staterooms which left both the balcony & hallway doors open and on the Promenade, pool deck and above there was no place reserved for non-smokers. In short, NCL can/needs to do much better.
