Sail Date: Apr 2014
Traveled with children

My husband and I have been cruising for close to 20 years now on various cruise lines. Our favorite somewhat economical choice has been Celebrity Cruises. Until now. We sailed the Eastern Caribbean on Celebrity's Reflection this April 2014. Reflection is a little over a year old. We sailed on her last year and loved the ship but felt the service was lacking. We went again this year thinking last year's lack of service was due to the newness of the ship but this year was the same. Service in the dining room was slow and the food was only adequate. We tried the salmon - it came back very dry. We were told we should have ordered the salmon medium rare to tell the chef we wanted it juicy. ? We ordered it the next time medium rare and it came back over cooked and dry again. The lobster tail was tough and we just couldn't get a rare steak. It always came back medium rare. We had children at our table and the pizza in the dining room was awful. The pizza in the Ocean View Café was good. Go figure. We can highly recommend the specialty restaurants Lawn Club Grill and Tuscan Grill. There the food was close to excellent. Too bad you have to pay extra to get good service and good food. The king bed on the Reflection this year could use replacing as that center seam was hard on our backs. The ship itself still looks amazing although I really do prefer the smaller ships like the Century. It's the small extra service touches we miss. Waiters used to use this tool called the Table Crumber to quickly scrape away crumbs from atop the table cloth after each serving. Our waiter had no idea what we were talking about. We had a suite which included a butler. On the first day he came to introduce himself while my husband was out of the stateroom which went well but we didn't see him again for 3 days. My husband thought I imagined him until he showed up on day 4 with high tea baby sandwiches. When I called him he would do as I asked but he wasn't forthcoming. I called and asked him if he could get us 6 tickets to the highly sought Sin City Comedy Show and he came through with 5. I was happy he did that but I had to ask. Another instance - included in the suite price was a complimentary dinner for 2 at a specialty restaurant. I forgot about it and he never mentioned it. On the other hand our cabin attendant Anna was wonderful. She was cheerful and we often saw her in the hallway. When she found out we were renewing our vows in St. Thomas she had a large "Congratulations" sign hung on our door that night, covered the bed with rose petals and made our towels into swans facing each other to form a heart with their beaks and necks. Very special and thoughtful. That's what I miss from the days of old. I still think Celebrity is a notch above Princess, NCL and HAL. For the price Celebrity is a good buy (not excellent) but when we sail again we'll spend the extra to sail with Regent Seven Seas or one of the other luxury cruise lines.

Cabin Review

The Sky Suite on the Reflection was very nice. Very clean and a good amount of room to move around in without tripping over each other. The veranda was also a good size. The veranda chairs and table were a bit nicer than on the Concierge Class cabin next to us. The tub gives you more room to shower in and I do like the Bvlgari soaps. Great storage space. We didn't use all of it. It didn't have those little reading lamps over each side of the bed so you don't have to bother your partner,
