As I read some of the negative comments about the Century I wonder if they aren't written by some of their competitors. To suggest that the food was terrible and the ship is on it's last legs is truly absurd.
This was our 16th cruise and 5th on Celebrity. We are a married couple in our 50's. We departed on April 5th and were blessed to have great weather the entire week.
We had a oceanview cabin (window) on Deck 9. It was immaculate with no bathroom smell issues. We were taken care of so well by Peter and Thomas we tipped them extra cash at the end and wish we could have given them more. We had few complaints with the food. The evening dinner in the MDR had some hits and misses with fish items. Some were not executed well for taste in our view. The "Always Available" menu was consistently good. The lobster on formal night was outstanding. Service from Ronny and Boris was great as was the wine service by Veronica.
The ship is showing its age in terms of not being 100% 'fresh'. She is a little worn around the edges. Frankly I didn't care about that. She was clean.
The only real annoyance we had all week was that they canceled the Winery Tour in Ensenada due to lack of participation. Even if two people wanted to go on that tour the local tour provider should have arranged for a cab/van to take us to the vineyards. Surely for $70 some operator would have done this. There were numerous cabs available outside the Port Zone who were begging for business. We didn't want to go on a trip not arranged by Celebrity. There is zero to do around the port area.
The entertainment was more limited than previous cruises we have taken. The solo guitarist and the comic hypnotist were highlights. Cruise Director John Granthan was seemingly everywhere and seemed to enjoy his job.
Also kudos to bar server Suniday from Maritius and hard working pasta cook Jesus from the Dominican Republic, I am still waiting to receive our survey from Celebrity to fill out.
We took this tour for two reasons. We are from Texas and had never sailed out of California. The every-day-in-a port schedule was absolutely what we were looking for. The places we visited were superb. We had been to these cities multiple times (save Catalina and Ensenada) but found new things to do. We would highly recommend this cruise. And for the price we paid we consider it an absolute bargain.
We've never had a bad cruise. It seems the people who sharply critisize this cruise are having a bad life in general.
