So glad I didn't cancel

Sail Date: March 2014
Destination: Asia
Embarkation: Hong Kong

This was the first time my husband and I had been on a cruise so we didn't have anything to compare it against except that we are experienced travellers having stayed and dined in some beautiful places. Since we booked with Celebrity Cruises we continued to monitor many negative reviews and were questioning whether we should cancel our booking for an alternative. However, we are so pleased we didn't!

The embarkation process in Hong Kong was well organised, efficient and went without a hitch.

Our cabin number 8155 on deck 8 had a fantastic location being easily accessible to all restaurants. It was clean, tidy, well maintained, had a lovely balcony, in general all we needed.

The main cafe, the Ocean View, provided a huge variety of meals to suit all tastes and palettes. The only negative point we can make is that the food could be served a little hotter. On full days at sea it does get a little crowded at 12 noon so either go a bit early or leave it until More after 1pm.

The food in the main restaurant, The Metropolitan, was of an excellent quality. Service was sometimes a little slow, especially at breakfast time.

The speciality dining restaurants, of which there were two, always served fabulous food, exceptional quality, along with great service.

In general the staff were hard working, extremely polite and friendly, service on board was second to none.

An extensive list of excursions was available and you would be hard done by not to find something that suited you. Due to the location of some of these points of interest meant that a 3 hour (approx) coach ride (each way) was necessary in order to reach them due to docking locations. However the guides made the journey entertaining and quite informative.

Drinks packages - don't rush into purchasing these as you can buy them on board when you can better determine if they are worth while. Water is provide with all meals. If you frequent the coffee bars then a non-alcoholic package comes in useful. It's useful to note that coffee after meals was extra unless you have a package. You will also need bottled water for excursions, however these were provided free of charge on the coaches.

Again decide once you are on board whether you need to purchase a wine package. Bottles can be purchased individually and any wine not drunk can be carried over until the next day.

The disembarkation process in Singapore was again superbly organised.

One niggly point - there seemed to be every opportunity to charge for the little extras which other establishments provide as a complimentary service e.g. Wi Fi.

Our experience was obviously different from the negative ones that we read about and we wouldn't hesitate in sailing with Celebrity Cruises again. Less

Fantastic location. Ideally situated close to the Ocean View Cafe and The Metropolitan Restaurant.
