Nice ship, but choose a different one

Sail Date: March 2014
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New Orleans

If you have never cruised, you will enjoy this ship. If you have cruised before, you will hate it! The Sunshine is a small cramped ship. The Cabins are nice and the ship is clean, but the venue areas and the public areas are just so small.

Embarking was easy, but the lady checking us in did not know what she was doing and kept asking us the same questions over and over. Once on the ship we explored all the areas only to find out right away that it was going to be a long week aboard a small ship. We were able to get into our cabin and unload our carry on, so we could enjoy lunch with out lugging our luggage.

The food on board was overall better than any other Carnival Cruise we have ever taken. With the exception of the buffet food. But, with so many other options, who needed to eat the buffet food? Guy's burgers were awesome. The main dining room food was very good also. The service staff were less then enjoyable. We have decided they must hate their jobs and wanted More everyone to know. The wait time for my time dining was never an issue, except for lobster night. The only problem with my time dining was the checking in process, it was very unorganized. People pushing and shoving and people standing in the way while trying to check in.

If you can go through a week without soda, I would suggest skipping the soda package. That is a joke! We purchased 3 of them and were never able to get a soda! Forget about trying to get a non alcoholic drink during a show or during dinner (we couldn't even get iced tea or lemonade during dinner). One time a bartender actually rolled his eyes when we ordered a soda at the bar. They don't get tips for soda, so they don't want to serve them.

We found the cruise director "shorty" to be the worst cruise director we have ever had. No personality and never interacted with the people aboard the ship( at least not with us...never even seen her the whole week, except at a show) The entertainment was pretty weak, did enjoy the rock show, but the rest were pretty generic. The singers were pretty bad too.

To wait for the comedy club shows, you do have to get there pretty early to get a good seat. The worst part is standing in a hot hall way while waiting. It is true, that if you don't get there early, you will be watching the show on a tv monitor. There was a smell of sewage on deck 3, but that is the only place we noticed it. Less

Cabin review: 8210 & 8214

The cabins were clean and well kept up. Never had any issues with our cabin crew.

Port and Shore Excursions

We did the barrier reef snorkeling excursion. This was a nice trip, but you never get a chance to go into Belize. You get off the ship onto a boat, which you are on for about 45 minutes. The island is small, but very nice. The snorkeling was not the best we have had, but the weather that day was very windy which did not make for the best snorkeling.

This was a nice excursion with the exception of it being to long. No time for shopping in the port. You do stop for a picture and bathroom break at a high priced no selection.
