Monster of Rock Cruise 2014, MSC Divina

Sail Date: March 2014
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Miami

We are experienced cruisers, Carnival, Royal, Princess & Barefoot cruising with Norwegian. We are diamond members with Royal have done a bunch of ships.

Boarding: The ship actually left around 7pm, I believe you could board until like 5PM which is pretty late for a cruise ship. We had some flight issues and showed up at 4pm and still stood in a line for over an hour trying to get aboard.

Disembarkation:

We did the self assist and were off the boat by 7:00 am in in line for a cab going to Ft Lauderdale airport, which is $70.00 plus tip.

Food: I saw a bunch of post concerning the food... it was typical cruise food maybe a little less in selections. If you went to the dinning room which was all open seating it was a little fancier then the buffet and a bit more selections. We did both dinner & lunch at buffet and dinning room. We ate twice at the steakhouse so so probably not worth the money unless you have some extra dough to spend. More

NO ROOM SERVICE... DURING CRUISE

Breakfast Coffee- They will bring you coffee and bread to your room like most other cruises if you fill out the door hanger before you go to bed.

DRINKS:

The drinks were priced pretty standard to most cruises 5-6 bucks a beer 6-9 bucks for a mixed drink 3 bucks a soda. I bought the beer package from cruise line they delivered the tickets 2 days into the cruise and refused to take them back... I am sure my CC Company won't have any issues refusing the charge.

Cabin:

We were in 12133 which is an Outside Balcony very nice room, good size , really solid cabin steward... smelled a bit smoky upon arrival.. just had to deal with it.

People:

I can't say enough about the fellow cruisers, artist and entertainment. When you look over and see the lead singer from Tesla "Jeff" hanging out in the crowd hugging on a couple of strangers watching a pool stage show, it really says it all. My wife and I are a bit older 49 & 44 and we were a bit concerned when we hit the boat .... however the cruise was about the music not about attitudes and stereotypes...what a great bunch of folks to hang out with ....

Dress:

Shorts & T Shirts during the day , we did jeans and a bit nicer shirts at night, leave the formal dress and khakis at home no need for them.

Entertainment:

Solid line up , the artist were everywhere on the boat... they were approachable friendly and very accommodating. We had the lead singer of one of the bands invite us to their show on the elevator couldn't be nicer.

Nassau:

Been there done that.. we just walked over to the Hilton next to pier did the $60 bucks and they gave you back 40.00 in food and drink credit. You are really renting the beach lounger for $20 bucks at the end of the day. I am pretty sure thats about the same price as Ocean City Maryland renting beach chairs.

WIFI:

Worked great bit pricey but worked as advertised

Monster Island:

Went to the Island for a couple of hours ...nothing special but nice to get off boat

Deck Chairs:

We didn't have any issues with deck chairs ... the boat is sizable and plenty of room

Overall:

Great cruise, had a good time probably not something we do every year maybe skip a year but something we would certainly do again if the line up is right.

WE HAD A GREAT TIME.... Less

smelled like smoking a bit

Port and Shore Excursions

We have been to Nassau several times, This year we did the Hilton thing which is walking distance from ship and you can see it. Its right on the other side of Senor Frogs. We paid $60 each but got a $40 food and drink credit. Basically you are renting the lounge chairs and facility for $20 bucks . Food was decent , drinks good and you ordered off the same menu as everyone else. It was also not very crowded.
