We booked a Grand Suite for a Carnival Cruise out of Charleston and figured we'd get something special. The room was large with a great view, but the promised amenities were nothing more a single tube of toothpaste.
When we asked the room steward where the amenities were, he pointed to the toothpaste and said that was it.
There were 3 adults and a child in the room and we tried to get bathrobes for all three adults. They finally appeared on the third day. Same with the special beach towels.
Did I mention that it took 2 days to get the maintanence guy to fix the air conditioner? Three days to get the sink and the bathtub unplugged?
Really, nothing was as good as it should have been for what we were paying and our complaints got us nowhere.
The rest of the cruise? The food in the dining room was luke warm every night. The waiters seemed bored and unconcerned. There was very little entertainment in the "Universe Lounge." Freeport, one of two cruise ports, smelled of gasoline.
The good things? The casino was active, clean, and full of first rate slots. The kids area was also first rate. The care-givers seemed alert and devoted to the kids.
