Good But Not Great

Sail Date: March 2014
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Baltimore

A little background on us, we love to cruise and this was our 14 cruise, 12 on RCCL. We sail out of Baltimore for the most part.

As expected check in at Baltimore was a breeze. These people are so well trained and very pleasant. We were on board by 11:30 and having lunch in the Windjammer with some friends.

Cabins ready at 1:00. Dropped off our luggage and met our Cabin Stewart, Sandy. He was superb throughout the cruise. I was disappointed in the condition of the furniture, I thought it would be really nice after dry dock. The cabinets were scratched and several of the doors and drawers didn’t close right. The sink in the bathroom is a joke! It is so small you can barely get your hands in. The bed frame no longer allows you to store your suitcases under it. Luckily, we were in a corner Aft JS (7650) that had a walking closet.

MDR – we had 12 people assigned to our table but it was only set for 10. They wanted to move two of us but we said no. We More would just squeeze together. Jose was our waiter and he was great. The choices for food were the same old, same old. We were disappointed in the selections. Food was never hot. We had good service but still took close to 2 hours every night for dinner. Way too long IMO.

I purchased the Royal Refreshment Package and that was fine.

A couple in our group had a medical emergency that eventually had them getting off by ambulance in Cozumel. I can’t say enough good things about the Medical Staff. They were excellent. They were so professional and caring.

Cozumel – we went to the Playa Mia Beach Break. It was great. Chair, umbrella, and drinks included. Waiter came around frequently for drink orders.

Jamaica – Irie Mon Beach Break. After the Playa Mia Beach Break this one was a disappointment.

Beach not as nice, had to rent an umbrella, and the drinks were terrible.

Labadee – We had an Over Water Beach Cabana on Barefoot Beach. You need water shoes for this beach. The BBQ Luncheon was nice.

A little rough weather on the return trip to Baltimore. We were doing a B2B and waiting for instructions on what to do. Asked Guest Services several times and they had no information. Finally, we got an instruction letter the night before departure. On other B2Bs there is usually a luncheon with the Hotel Staff to go over procedures, but not for us. On the next cruise we saw that the B2B cruisers did have a lunch with the staff.

We did leave the ship to pick up our Grandson for the second leg of our trip. Review to follow. Less
