Unhappy with the new Royal

Sail Date: March 2014
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Cabins: The cabins on this ship are even smaller than on other Princess ships, if possible. The balcony is also tiny as reviewed by many others. There are 2 regular chairs and a small table, with not more than 2 feet extra space to the rail. You usually had to move the chairs around a little to even be able to get out the door.

Horizon Court: The food court is poorly designed. It is large and difficult to navigate. The different foods are hard to find and if you separate from your family, you may never see them again. So we usually ended up just eating whatever we were closest to and stayed together. The food was so-so. Nothing great.

The pizza restaurant was nice. Relaxing and the food was good.

International café: Good as always, but someone needs to tell the chef that not everyone likes mayo on every type of sandwich. It should be available as a side choice. The sandwiches were not as good as previously.

Shows: The production shows are now More only 30 minutes. There was no live orchestra to accompany the singers and dancers and the singing is canned. A few live singing numbers but even those had a canned quality with back up music singing. The best show was the Beatles, but again, they were only on 30 minutes.

Princess Live: They held some games in this theater, like trivia, etc. This is not a good multi-purpose room. Chairs were terribly uncomfortable and positioned as a theater. Missed having the Explorers Lounge.

Smoking: There are 3 places on the ship that allow smoking. The 17th floor, aft. This is a large area and they do have coffee and tea in the mornings. 7th floor, aft, in a small area, but it is not covered so could only be used, weather permitting. And Churchills. The casino has a smoking section, except for the 2 nights that the casino is completely non smoking. So, if you smoke, get an aft cabin otherwise you will be walking miles.

Activities: There were a lot of activities offered throughout the day and evening.

Overall, the ship is pretty, as one would expect from a new ship, however, there are design flaws and unfortunately, most of the problems will be the same on the new Regal ship, as we were told it was too far along in the construction phase to change major problem areas. I was a little disappointed with Princess and this ship in particular. Less
