What a fun week we had...
Embarkation: New Orleans port was very well organized - plenty of signs & people to help point the way. We had priority boarding & were quickly directed to the priority lounge - we got to the port at 11:00 & were onboard by 11:30.
Cabin: We had an Ocean Suite which was perfect…nice big balcony, tub, & plenty of space. Our room steward Suparta was superb, always greeted us by name & with a smile.
Food: Excellent & plenty of choices to choose from. MDR did not disappoint & our servers Jovan, Tamara, & Velimir were great. Fahrenheit 555 was the best - huge portions & the biggest slice of cheesecake I’ve ever seen. Cucina Del Capitano & Guys were our favorites for lunch. We also ate at Cucina Del Capitano for dinner & it did not disappoint.
Entertainment: Better than expected - most of the comedians made us laugh out loud & the shows were fun. Our favorite by far was Epic Rock on the last night. Wow! We also spent a lot of time playing trivia games, karaoke, water slides, & the arcade.
Ship: I never sailed on the Destiny so have no comparison but can say the Sunshine is beautiful, lots to do, & easy to get around…by the second day we were familiar with the ship. Yes, there were lines at times but they moved quickly. We never had an issue finding a lounge chair. They only downside I saw were the Limelight & Liquid lounges. Both seemed to be a bit too small & you definitely need to get in line about 20-30 min before shows started to get a good seat. No big deal for us. We did not go to the spa, fitness, or camp carnival areas so cannot comment on those. I can say though that we never once experienced any bad odors or saw any buckets as commented in previous reviews.
Montego Bay: We were really disappointed with this port. Not a lot going on here - definitely need an excursion or grab a taxi to go elsewhere. We ended up going to Sunset Beach resort was nice enough however food was barely mediocre & the 18 year olds hogged the bars.
Grand Cayman: This is a wonderful port - lots to see & do within walking distance. Our excursion included Hell, Turtle Farm, & Stingray City. We had a great time...Hell is a bit of a tourist trap but fun to go once. The turtle farm was fun - we all got to hold the turtles, finally Stingray City was the best part of the trip – we were simply amazed & wanted to stay longer. Would definitely do this again!
Cozumel: We didn’t spend a lot of time in Cozumel since our excursion to the Mayan Ruins (Tulum) took all day. The trip was rather long between the ferry & the bus ride but was well worth the time & money spent.
Debarkation: We had priority so got off the ship at 7am & on the road by 7:20. I can see how this could be chaotic though if you didn’t have priority. I saw many people crowded around waiting in halls, near elevators, stairs, & in some cases, simply not listening to instructions.
Overall we had a truly great time & would definitely sail the Sunshine again!
