This was our first time on a cruise and we thought we would use this smaller ship as a 'taster' for the future. The ship itself was smaller than many others we saw, but we feel this made the whole cruising experience more personal. The crew were great, always pleasant and helpful. The entertainment was absolutely brilliant, all the shows were very professional, and the entertainers themselves, I don't feel you could find better anywhere. A big pat on the shoulder to them all. Especially, the last 2 days of the cruise when we experienced some really bad weather, which did shake the ship a little, and to be fair some of the entertainers (as well as some guests) did suffer from seasickness, but as the saying goes ' the show must go on' and indeed it did. The food was always hot, and tasty. Some people who have reviewed complained about the self service Lido restaurant, not being self service at the moment, and we do have to agree that was a little irritating. Because the serving cabinets were 'roped' off and the staff standing outside these areas to serve you, it did mean there was a lot less room for people to walk around, and this also made it difficult to actually see what was available (there was a menu at the door, but you still want to look at the food). We feel if there were just one staff member (which to be fair there was most of the time) giving hand gel to everyone entering the Lido restaurant, then that would assist with keeping any infection away. We say this, as sometimes there were staff at the coffee machines and sometimes not? so really it should totally be all or nothing to be effective! Anyway we liked the Lido restaurant. We also dined at the waiter service Meridian restaurant. The service could be a little slow, and on afew occasions they did get our order wrong, but nothing worth bothering about, although some people might complain. We also dined in the al a carte Mistrells restaurant (additional charge for this), got to say service, food etc second to none, well worth a visit even with the extra charge. We have posted review with regard to our cabin on the deck plan, but no problems there either. We would just like to mention a couple of negative points,, which could easily be resolved. When you receive your cruise news, this tells you which deck you should be on to leave the ship, it does also say this could be changed due to height of sea water. Now this is fair enough, however, if this deck is changed, then there should be some information about this on the day, either in the lift, or certainly on the deck where original disembarkation was meant to be. Otherwise like us, you are just roaming from deck to deck to find where it has been changed too. Also, as first time cruisers we didn't really know what captains night consisted of. I had some lovely dresses and my partner took a smart shirt, trousers and shoes, but we were then informed (before the event thankfully) that it was black tie only. I think this should be emphasised somewhere, as I say especially for first time cruisers. Lastly, when shore excursions are booked, there should be a little more information with regard to appropriate clothing. We were lucky as for all ours we had appropriate footwear etc., but some people turned up in sandals when really trainers were more appropriate. Obviously, people will make their own decisions on what they wish to wear, but at lease if they are forewarned then there can be no complaints. The last two days of the cruise were horrendous! we had really bad sea conditions, but this is no fault of the crew or ship, and to be fair CELEBRATION really held her own, and I believe these conditions were rare, as we spoke to many people who had cruised many times and never encountered weather like this, so we were just unlucky. Has it put us off? well yes for about 24 hours, but now ready for the next one, and we have got to say, not really interested in some really posh large cruise liner, we will stick with the more friendly smaller Thomson cruises. Keep up the good work.

Cabin Review

This cabin has a porthole, and is quite near the front of the ship, right at the bottom on deck 1. However, we had no problems with this. You could hear the sea outside, but you soon got use to this. There was no sound from the engines etc., nor excessive movement. Infact, when we did have some quite rough seas, it seems that this area of the ship is actually one of the best to be in. Room itself, good size, nice large double bed, plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space, and very welcome tea and coffee making facilities. All in all would recommend this room.
