Just got off the Freedom

Sail Date: March 2014
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We went to Key West, Ocho Rios & Grand Cayman. My review will be off kilter a bit as we went on the Breeze last year and it was A-MAZING. In comparison...there is none. Also, consider that the Freedom is going in to dry-dock very soon for refurbishment. Overall, it was what we expect traveling on a Carnival Cruise. Food, service all about the same. Ports good, excursions booked off ship...did not give in to Carnival hard sales tactics other than the spa, which our girls (7 & 10) loved. I would have loved my $150 massage/facial more if the walls were not paper thin as to hear toilets flushing and thumping from classes throughout. That said, we did have a very nice trip and plan to sail on Carnival again. This was our 5th with them. For the price we pay, I do not expect Q E 2 service and quality. This is the Holiday Inn of cruising, so take that for what it is worth and expect accordingly. Ship comedy shows were great, main show....eh. We all love trivia and the usual pool More games. Missed the BINGO on Lido the Breeze had as well as the pool activities being broadcast on the pool screen.

However we did have a bit of a grouchy room steward who seemed upset that we requested towel animals for our kids from the front desk ( we would have asked him had we ever saw him). He also was annoyed we reported on the day of departure that we had a not full mini bar (as we did not want to be charged)...and finally seemed very irritated when we called to ask if he had taken linens from the cabin as we had lost a stuffed animal and thought it may have gone to the laundry by mistake.

Weather perfect....lots of Spring Break college kids...as expected. Can't really complain for the price! Less

Lowest level ocean view.

Port and Shore Excursions

Stingray Swim

We always book off ship and this was an excellent choice for our 2nd time in GC. We did MOBY DICK and recommend 100000%. Awesome! Sting rays and snorkeling. Lunch at Rackems afterwards. Pefect day

Went to Hemingway's home to see the polydactyl cats. Kids loved it, me too. Just wandered this charming town, which was charming minus the massive drinkers for spring break and high prices for souviners.

Island Tour

Took our kids on the Bob Marley tour. Long drive through rural/ primative areas so hubby could pay homage to Bob Marley. The only tour we could find that would take kids 7 & 10. Ship tour was 18+. Excellent tour with side trips only provided to us by the tour. A+++
