We have previously sailed on the Destiny and the Spirit, and in agreeing with others, the Celebration is a bit of an old lady of the seas but she still has character even if she doesn't have all the chrome and glass the newer ships have.
There are some things that people call negatives such as the vibration in some areas of the ship. However we didn't find this a problem and soon got used to it. There was some movement of the ship when the seas where a bit choppy. The stabilisers reduced the roll ok but they don't do anything for the pitching but you can't blame the ship for the weather/sea conditions. We also heard some people saying that they had engine noise in their cabin but they where on decks 1 and 2 at the back of the ship (obviously this is where the engines are) so I would expect some noise in that area.
The public areas were a bit crowded especially during the days at sea but we had a balcony cabin which was ideal for chilling out.
These were probably the only real negatives about the Celebration and they are outweighed by the many positives.
Our balcony cabin was comfortable, spacious (deck 9) and kept spotless by Putu our housekeeper. All the public areas where kept clean and tidy by the housekeeping team who always had a smile on their faces
We dined in the Meridian restaurant most times and the food was to a very good standard, with a good choice. We only used the self service once or twice but again the food was good although the lido could become very busy.
We used Mistrals restaurant (cover charge) and the food there was excellent and well presented.
The service was good in all areas from the waiters in the restaurants to the bar staff. I had read reviews about slow service from the bar staff but we never waited more than 10 minutes for our drinks.
The highlight of the cruise has to be the show team who were excellent in all areas and didn't have a weak link anywhere. The singing and dancing superb. The team were also very approachable and were happy to talk with the guests ( something that was missing on our last cruise).
One person who really stood out was assistant cruise director Mab who worked tirelessly throughout the cruise and nothing was too much trouble for her. Thomsons should be proud to have her on board, she is definitely a big asset to the company.
Overall we had a great time on the ship and would recommend Thomsons to others. If you want climbing walls, ice rinks, glass and chrome everywhere don't go to Thomsons. If you want a good time with good food and excellent entertainment in a friendly atmosphere and a happy crew it has to be Thomsons every time.
