We cruised on the Breakaway starting March 9 and are a couple in our 30s with no kids. This was our first cruise ever but we have been to Florida and the Caribbean before on various vacations.

Boarding

We arrived by car at the port with no issues- we actually chose this cruise because we could drive to NYC and save a flight. We got there around 10:30am, but turning left off the West Side Highway and getting up into the parking added about half an hour, so plan for that. There wasn't a ton of surface parking at the port for the size of the ship, so I was glad we arrived early. Dropping bags at the porters and getting through security was a breeze. We were mis-directed to a priority check in and boarding line which the desk staff allowed us to remain in, and ended up on the boat around noon, which was a nice surprise. Our room was pretty much ready then, so we ditched our coats, explored the ship in peace and quiet and had a quick lunch. Our luggage arrived in our room around 4-5pm and we were all unpacked and set by the early evening. Very impressed with the start of the cruise.

Cabin Review

We stayed in a balcony room, aft side on deck 10. One issue, we were close to the deck 8 boardwalk and a fair amount of cigarette smoke wafted up into our room when the balcony door was open. You might want a room higher up to avoid that. It was nice to be in between a lot of the food and activities on decks 6-8 and 15-16, deck 10 felt pretty central. Really happy with the room for 2 people. It claimed to sleep 3-4 but I think that would be awfully cramped. The room was cozy, had tons of storage, a decent bathroom and fairly large bed (said queen but seemed like a king). TV was pretty limited and in room movies were $10. You would think this wouldn't matter but by day 6-7 you get kind of bored. My only room complaint was that the room wasn't overly clean. Dirty closets, windows and mirrors, under the bed where you store your luggage is filthy, everything feels like others have touched it before you. I don't know if this was due to our steward or to the ship housekeeping standard as a whole. There was a fair bit of movement on the ship over the week, but I never felt overly sea sick or nauseous. Our room was aft and it was fine. The rocking of the ship at night in bed was kind of nice.
