Ship Facts: Norwegian Getaway Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Norwegian Getaway Deck Plans
March 8 On the Getaway

NCL offers very very attractive rates for this cruise so 6 of us jumped onboard.

We are all couples, over 55, seasoned cruizers..

Cabin: Our cabin was located on Deck 5, really not bad. Very small with no place to sit in the room, except the bed. This was an outside cabin, no balcony. Lots of storage, typical cruise restroom (small). DO NOT ORDER ROOM SERVICE. There is no place to eat it, except in bed. The mini bar is loaded and expensive. soft drinks are 2.50. Room steward was wonderful. Smiling and always seemingly happy.

Entertainment: FIRST CLASS !@!@!.... We have been on several cruises and this is the finest entertainment we have seen.. the Dancing shows were excellent and "Legally Blonde, the musical" was terrific. They also have the Grammy lounge, and the comedy club. really first class, must see shows..

Food: Free Styling really didnt seem to work for us. There are 3 'free' restaurants on this ship.

The menu is fairly fixed, with the addition of variety. The service is very slow, the meats we had were terrible. i had a strip steak on my first night, so tough i rejected it. Our server rarely smiled and the 'reach over' to remove dishes was common. They had a Pistachio creme brulet that was disgusting.

Getaway has several really good restaraunts onboard, but, they all have an Up charge from 15 - 50.00 per person. The "UpCharge" seems to be a common theme onboard.

Best free food can be found on the Buffet.. It is quite good and that is where you will find the Prime rib and the Lobsters.. It seems that the 'free style' dining rooms are smaller than the other ships and when they offered the 'premium' foods there the waiting was extremely long .

There is no 'formal' night on this ship so dont bother bringing a suit.. its all about the Chillaxing on NCL.

If you have kids, this ship is for you. The parents i talked too all had positive experiences. The staff was really good with kids.

This ship is geared toward the younger crowd, young families, first and 2nd time cruisers.

Overall, it was a really fun time. At this time it still seems to be breaking in, some of the staff needs to to go, I found many food service staff either appearing unhappy or just plain rude. (I ordered a cup of 'americano coffee' at the 'up charge (2.50) barrista cart. They took a shot of expresso and topped it with plain hot water. I told the girl that it tasted horrible and she said, 'you obviously dont know good coffee, at which point i demanded a refund')

Fun time though, water slides are neat, pool area a bit crowded and noisey (old guy here :) )

all in all a good value for your money, if you dont mind paying a bit more here and there for better quality.
