We were excited to cruise on The Getaway. Their third trip out from Miami. We have previously sailed on the Epic and there are some things very much the same. The travern, bowling alley, Spice, Ice Bar, slides, rock climbing wall are all there. What is different is the layout of the restaurants. The specialty restaurants also have cafes/bars out on the walk around deck which you can also go inside to eat. During the day these seatinig areas outside become a great place for relaxing quietly. They have a few more specialty restaurants, ie seafood and raw bar. Entertainment was good. Not too fond of "Legally Blond" but that is just me. It was extremely loud and probably great for the younger group. I loved the new cuban/spanish restaurant cafe on the 15th floor. It is a great place for lunch close to the pool. It is complimentary. There are two separate dining rooms, both have the same menu. The Tropicana Dining room is a third choice which has a dance floor with live shows during dinner. Breakfast in your room is mostly continental style.
Our Balcony Room on the 13th floor, mid ship was very nice. No robes, but plenty of space for our clothes. Our steward was Jonathan and was wonderful. The balcony itself seemed smaller than the Epic Balcony, although it still had two chairs and a very small table. Big enough for 2 people. It was nice knowing that this was a brand new ship. The mattress was very comfortable.
They have a robe walk with zip line and a walk out plank on the 17th floor along with mini golf. The only draw back I had was the Casino, as great as it was, it seems to stay full of smoke no matter what section you were playing. It did not stop me from playing but it did the rest of my family.
I do give a thumbs up!
We have been to St. Maarten/St. Marten many times but this was a first for our Son and daughter in law travelling with us. We decided to go to Orient Beach (on the french side) so they could experience the pretty beach there and also have choices of bars and restaurants. This was our favorite stop and we had so much fun, drinking, eating and playing in the water. We find it is cheaper to just rent a cab (plenty of them) in St. Maarten close to dock and there are plenty of cabs at the beach to return you to port. This also gave us some time to shop around town.
We took this tour so that our son and daughter-in-law could get idea of St. John USVI. They went to a small beach there and we snorkled and swam ashore to lay out some on the beach. During our return back to St. Thomas we were served cheese and bread and choice of beer, champagne or rum punch.
