24 hrs from Booking to Boarding....

You may have read our review of the Conquest from October of 2006 (http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=22159) - the last line of it was "We'd do it again in a heartbeat....."

As it turned out, I ran in to some unexpected vacation time in the course of a job change. A couple hours after my boss told me it would not be necessary for me to work my notice period, DW and I tried to jump on one of the cheap 4 or 5 day cruises we had been oogling since ships started to come back to New Orleans. Turned out they were all booked and we gave up and went to bed. Called a PVP for the first time (always used an agent) on Saturday morning to inquire about wait listing and he let us know our chances were pretty slim - and the prices were going to be high. He asked if we could make it to Galveston (12hrs from Memphis) by the next morning and threw a killer rate out for two guaranteed cabins. We got our confirmation at 11:30, packed and left the house at 1:30.
