Lipstick On A Pig

Sail Date: February 2014
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New Orleans

We were excited to be on a ship that had recently been refurbished, assuming it was going to be really nice!

Embarkation - It was pandamonium. Where we had to go to get our room key was way across the room from where you come in. Between you and the desk is thousands of people waiting to get on the ship. You had no idea if you were in line or just behind a group of people waiting to get on the ship. It was the worst embarkation we have ever had.

When we walked onto the ship we smelled an odor of sewer/septic smell. When we went to our room we were pleased with the size of it. The bed was large and roomy. However, as we began to unpack we noticed there were no nightstands to put our small items we usually have next to our bed. There was also no full length mirror. There was not a lot of storage and it seemed that the design of the room wasted some space that could have been put to use as storage area.

The bathroom shower was great, but the shower room made More the rest of the bathroom extremely cramped. The toilet was at an angle where one foot set in the shower when you sat on the toilet.

The food was good, however the dining room was very noisy. The ceiling was low and the conversations just bounced back down from the ceiling making you have to shout to be heard. It was not the ambiance of a grand dining room that you would expect.

The common areas like the Atrium, Liquid Lounge, etc. were very small and cramped. The Liquid Lounge seemed like a warehouse district and smelled like sewer. We went there once and were getting sick from the smell and left before the show began. The Comedy Club was awful! It was so small that many had to sit outside of the view of the entertainer, so all they could do is hear them rather than actually see the action. It was pathetic.

The entertainment we were able to see was not very good. Karaoke was the best entertainment on the ship. The Piano Bar guy could not really sing and begged for tips. I thought we had already paid for the entertainment with our purchase of the cruise? He was obnoxious and pushed tips and drinking. We saw three comedians on the ship. One of them was decent the other two not so much.

We always enjoy Cozumel and Roatan. We go to the beach at both places and make a nice day of it. Belize was okay. I can see where they have made some improvements to the shopping area (shade awnings on the walkway), and that is appreciated. However, the tender back from Belize was not good. We had to sit in the tender boat until it was full before they would take us back to the ship. The diesel fumes were making a lot of us sick! Some people actually yelled at the people driving the tender to beg them to leave and go back to the ship. But they stoically waited, ignoring us, and waited until the tender was full to go back.

The disembarkation went fine. We were able to get off the ship as early as we had planned.

I think for those people new to cruising, they will like the ship and the experience because they have nothing to compare it to. We have been on 18 cruises, so have much experience in what you can get on a cruise and we know when we are being shortchanged. This ship did not meet our expectations and was a real disappointment. When looking for a cruise, I would recommend bypassing this ship! Less
