Beautiful ship, but overall disappointment
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
This was our first Princess cruise. (We have cruised other lines.) I expected Princess to surpass my experiences, but unfortunately that did not happen.
The ship is beautiful, and we have no issues relative to our stateroom. The stewards were very responsive to our needs. Other than the first day, we didn't have any issue with the elevators. You definitely use them a lot since the dining areas and entertainment are on the lower decks, and the pool, fitness, and buffet dining are on the upper decks with stateroom only decks in between.
There simply was not enough to do on the ship. My husband and I like to have some other activities besides laying beside the pool all day. They have a few token game shows thrown in during the afternoons as well as the usual art and jewelry sales. That's it.
We had a positive experience regarding responsiveness of the staff. This includes the buffet, dining room, stewards, bar staff, etc..
The next disappointment was More the food. We had a couple good choices during dinner, but most nights the food was average. After a few mistakes, you learn what to eat at the buffet. The choices ranged from being dried out to cold (especially breakfast items.) Most of the selections were just too bland. I am not one who likes spicy food either. Items freshly made on the pool deck were best.
Entertainment is another area of major disappointment. They have one theatre with 3 times for the shows. We usually attended the 8:30 show. You had to arrive at least a half hour in advance to get a decent seat. Then the show lasted a half hour - definitely too short. We really liked the comedian. The 3 Divas were OK, as well as the ships singers and dancers. Did not like the illusionist at all. He did some digital card trick that looked like a giant etch a sketch. The last night of our cruise, the stage malfunctioned for the dancers. We ended up just leaving.
The embarkation line was long, but it continually moved. We signed up for the EZ Baggage at disembarkation, and that was great. No need to deal with your bags to the airport.
The two items that will prevent me from ever using Princess in the future are the lack of activities/entertainment during the day, and the quality of the food. Less
