Good ship, great price

Sail Date: February 2014
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We wanted to go on a 14 day cruise but could only find one. This was an older Holland America from Tampa. We passed on that one. That left back to back 7 day cruises that would come back up to Fort Lauderdale. We wind up on Ruby on 3 consecutive back to back's of 5, 5, and 4 days. We had the same balcony cabin. The price was excellent. We paid less than $200 per day after on board credits. The 3 cruises each went to Grand Cayman and 2 also went to Cozumel. We were there for the weather and the ship so we did not mind.

We were blessed with excellent weather. The turn around days in Ft Lauderdale were bright and sunny. This is not always the case in Feb. Every day on the cruise was beautiful. We did a lot of sunbathing. Port days were spent mostly on the ship although we did go to the beach in Grand Cayman. We would get choice spots next to the rear terrace pool. This is an excellent place.

The Ruby is in excellent shape. Very clean. The staff is excellent, very More friendly. Food in MDR is very good. The ship was on a 5 day menu so it got a little repetitive. Buffet is so-so, although some things were good.

Bad: Sauna broken the entire 14 days. They did away with shuffle board. Canned music for the dance shows. Jugglers very bad. Two of the bands were bad. Sun decks were crowded on sea days. Passengers would have to try and unlock extra chairs from tied down stacks. Often passengers had to carry the chairs from one deck to another to try and get a spot. The Ruby, Emerald, and Crown carry an extra 500 to 800 passengers and it shows up on the sun decks which remained the same size. The soda cards have become way to expensive. I did without out. The model of the ship went from $20 to $40. I collect the models but I wont pay $40. They need more Zuma classes or more room and Zumba gold classes. My wife loves these. Self serve laundry was good but they doubled the price.

More good: They had a atm like machine where you ran your cruise card and got your statement right away. Never a line. The computer room was never crowded. Slow but always available right away. Ask your room stewart for a princess robe. They are nice.

The weather made this cruise and the ship was very good. We watched many sunsets and saw a few sunrises off of our balcony Less
