husband and I traveled on the eurodam and quite frankly had lower expectations after taking 7 night cruise last year on other cruise line's brand new ship . we loved our week. we loved Holland and the people on the ship both the workers and fellow travelers.
the port building was actually a tad worn but as soon as we boarded the ship everything was terrific. our stateroom was roomy (we stayed on level 8 with an inside cabin) we had all the storage and amenities one might need. our room crew (cocos and heri) were perfect. cute towel displays each night and always fresh ice daily. any questions asked were directly answered, we found them to be yet another bonus on our cruise. dinner was amazing. how the restaurant crew can cook delish meals nights after night and serve them so lovely is almost amazing. we loved our service each night, I asked each night for assistance with my order and also ordered substitutions and/or extras and was delighted with our dinner. we chose to eat at set timed 8pm dinner and this worked for us. we dined with two other couples and enjoyed our review of our daily experiences.
we did get off the boat at each stop. our only cruise ship excursion was renting the lounge chairs and clam shell on half moon quay...these sold out quickly...book this for sure if you are sun sensitive...sure made our day fantastic. the place is gorgeous. we caught a private taxi that took us to bamboo blue beach. amazing find. round trip with tips and chairs and beach umbrella cost less than $80 for a full day. there were six ships in port in geogetown ...yuck !! if I had to do it over again we would have stayed on the ship. we took a cab to beach and got off at the first stop on 7 miles beach. the beach is gorgeous and water warm and beautiful but it was so crowded I felt like sardines packed in. would try getting out of cab much further from port or like I said ..stay on the ship unless there are fewer ships in port. finally, key west, the best!! been here several times and just love the atmosphere and shopping. renting scooters for the day, again took a walk and found a better price just a couple of blocks from the boat.
on the ship we thoroughly enjoyed trivia, cooking classes, the workout center and the pub crawl was a vacation highlight. shopping options and gaming were typical of cruising.
our only issue was the limited space in the shade near the pool. the new cabana option took away all pool side shade utilizing the lounge chairs. these people also used sun loungers for breaks from the shade and it seemed as if even less space was available for the rest of us. this practice reeked of nickel and diming. the cabana people not only (paid for yes) took up space around the pool, but I noticed they also saved sun loungers essentially doubling up on valuable pool space. this practice seemed out of place and definitely was not on par with the rest of the options offered.
this was our 5th cruise and our first on Holland...we had a wonderful vacation and would certainly consider another cruise and would look at the Holland options for sure.
