Disappointed - Not the service typically expected for HA

Sail Date: February 2014
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We have done 10+ cruise with HA. All of these have been on the smaller ships, around 1,200 passengers. The Eurodam was at full capacity of 2,100 for our cruise. We were disappointed almost every meal in the Lido, we spent so much time waiting in line for food, and then again to get a drink. If you got your food first, it was cold by the time coffee was retrieved. If you got coffee first, it was cold by the time you sat down with food. Most upsetting was that all food stations were not open at the busiest times for dining. This is an HA issue, need more staff to open more stations. The coffee makers were always broken on one side or the other and it looked like they should have been replaced months ago, buttons worn and tape over many of them. It appears to me they have even less staff and stations to feed 2,100 than to feed the 1,200 we usually cruise with. If you wanted to go to a movie, we had to arrive half hour prior to movie beginning as the theater was too small for as many as More were on the ship. Most every movie, guests had to leave, even arriving 15 minutes prior, all seats were taken. Funniest thing was when we had breakfast delivered to the room, they did not have enough insulated pitchers for coffee so they used water pitchers with aluminum foil over them, I thought I was on a Carnival Cruise for a moment. Most upsetting and stressful cruise, Eurodam, NEVER again. We cruised with our older children and they had done their first cruise with HA 6 years earlier on the VEENDAM, loved every minute of that cruise, this one was the cruise from hell for them. Their expectations were so high and were shot down every day as the madness continued. Shore Excursion on Jamaica was so disorganized we only got to do 2 of the 3 things we were scheduled to do, just one bad experience after another. I could add more disappointing issues but I am certain you have heard enough. Just enjoy HA, BUT on the smaller ships. BTW, when boarding in Ft Lauderdale, we had to check in by room numbers, odd in one line even in another. We were separated from our children due to this and when we ask the HA staff at the photo area if we could join our children for a picture with them, they replied, "NO, go to that line!!" This did not start our cruise with a pleasant experience. Less

Cabin review: Eurodam 8009

Loveseat in the room had 5 throw pillows, no place to set with all that, so we threw them on the floor each day, taking up space to walk. Who needs 5 throw pillows to collect dust and germs?????. There is just no place to stack or hide 5 pillows!!!!! Would have preferred 2 chairs instead and no throw pillows. No plug in bathroom for husband's razor, had to shave in the living" area. At the end of the cruise they emailed our survey to us to save paper but yet they deliver half dozen sheets each days with spa advertisements??

Port and Shore Excursions

ATV Adventure

(1)

We arrived at Good Hope Estates but they are so disorganized no one was certain where we were to go, finally we went to the ATV course. My son's side by side ATV had to be started by rubbing 2 wires together and the steering was horrible. Need to maintain equipment, this is dangerous. Would do nothing that involved Good Hope Estates in the future.

River Tubing

(1)

They ran so many groups in with our zipline group we did not get to do the river tubing. Good Hope Estates, VERY disorganized. Need to stop excursions with them until they get themselves organized, a disaster and wasted 1 1/2 hr ride to the Estate.

Zip-lining

(1)

When we were suiting up for zipline, they added another group with ours, people we did not know from another cruise ship, therefore it took over half hour to get us all suited to zip. As we zipped they kept adding more and more to our group so we had to wait what seemed like an hour at each of the zip. Zip-lining is to be zipping and zipping, from one to the next, not zip and take a nap. We were then to go to river tubing but we were out of time, had to begin the 1/ 1/2 hr trek in our mini van from the junk yard, back to the ship. Good Hope Estates is very disorganized and HA should stop excursion to there until they get themselves together. We did not get to view the photos they had taken of us, not shopping and to go to the bathroom, we had to do that on the run. Another disappointing day involving the EURODAM. Pretty much a wasted week of our lives on a disappointing cruise. NEVER would have expected this from HA.

Arrived at the small van that took us to Good Hope Estates, 1 1/2 hr away. the van was small and bench seats for our noncomfort. VERY uncomfortable for the long ride on these crazy roads with even crazier drivers. Waited over half hour for all participants to arrive then off we go. driver and tour quide were the best thing of the day. Friendly, informative and very professional. We arrived at Good Hope Estates but they are so disorganized no one was certain where we were to go, finally we went to the ATV course. My son's side by side ATV had to be started by rubbing 2 wires together and the steering was horrible.
