Disappointed with RCI. Probably won't ride them again.

Sail Date: February 2014
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan

We have been on about 10 cruises--Princess, Royal Caribbean and NCL--and found this one our least favorite. Probably will not take another RCI again.

Upon arrival, an unpleasant sewer gas smell filled the hallway leading toward our cabin and lingered in our cabin's bathroom for the first 3-4 days.

Machines in exercise room were good and exercise room was clean and tidy but only way to get drinking water was from an old fashioned water fountain. How unsanitary--no plastic cups, no ice water and no cold water bottles being offered for sale were available. What a glaring lack of understanding what the exercising guests need.

Food in dining room was well presented although service was typically slow. We had a waiter that insisted on being center of attention with his antics, including “high 5’s” which was not what we have typically encounter with wait staff. Lead waiter was aware of his behavior and made no effort to curtain it. Maître d More ‘stand was under staffed and guests formed long lines waiting to enter dining room. Food in Windjammer Café was generally tasteless. Scrambled eggs were cold most morning. Chef cooking omelets messed up ingredients several times for us and others.

Dancers were talented and hard working. Featured singers tended to shriek . “High school” bathroom humor jokes by one of the prime time (not late night, adult’s only) show comedians were boring and tasteless.

When making reservations for cruise, the RCI sales agent sent us two proposals via email for same trip, one for an inside cabin and the other for an outside cabin and both with same inclusions (tips, insurance and etc.). The next day when we called to make the reservation we found she had not made the same inclusions in the proposals which made the total price for the outside cabin significantly more expensive than in her proposal. Seemed like "bait and switch." We called RCI and complained and was told there was nothing they could do to honor her email proposal despite having taken other RCI cruises.. We booked the inside cabin. We were pleasantly surprised to find that we were assigned an outside cabin. Less

Cabin review: Jewel of the Seas 3038

Cabin and bed were comfortable and well appointed. Cabin steward, Ed Quinn, was outstanding.Missed having ice filled bucket in room without having to request it.
