Sail Date: Jan 2007

We have sailed three times with Princess. This was however the first time on the Dawn Princess and will be absolutely the last time on this ship.

The embarkation in San Francisco was horrible. To which I blame both Princess and the city of San Francisco. We arrived at 11am and thought from previous reviews that we would get on board very fast. But it wasn't until 2 1/2 hours later that we where on the ship! We waited in a cold and dirty warehouse on Pier 35. San Francisco was cold and the Pier was open to the elements so it was very uncomfortable. Obviously the city has no interest in the cruise industry or they would update Pier 35. Princess provided only coffee to keep us warm and that ran out very quickly.

Our first impression of the Dawn when we finally stepped on Board was that the ship looked good for its age, but seemed small to us. We had previously sailed on the Golden and Caribbean Princess which are much larger. The deluxe outside cabin we had was a good size. Sailing out of San Francisco was nice as we sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge but the San Francisco weather in January was cold and windy, although being from Toronto Canada it felt like early spring. We where at sea for 4 days and it wasn't until the third day that it was warm enough to enjoy the deck. The seas weren't as rough as we thought they would be.
