Sail Date: Feb 2014

Like many of our fellow customers with long years of cruising (14) together with several other cruise lines we had high expectations and were extremely disappointed in the fixtures and fittings of our cabin and of many of the public facilities. The worst was the poor operational maintentance. Of a refurbished ship in 2012 we would not expect a power failure with necessitated a whole days cruising and port lost. The communicated announcements about this were unclear maybe deliberately so. However the sound system was crackly and often couldn't even be heard in the cabins. It would be tempting to comment adversely on the Ukranian and Polish captains use of overtechnical English but that might seem racist. The minimal announcements from the cruise director who mixed very rarely with us passengers and seemed to have a sense of humour and social skills bypass was another matter.

The cabin doors banged into each internally even when ship was still and the shower fitment could not be kept hooked long enough for a decent spray - a medium cost cabin. Although the excursions are mostly good value the English of the guides was quite variable although with us they were very well organised nb for timing. The public toilets nb cubicles were very small and badly designed and checked- no sanitisers,no hot air dryers and crappy tight paper towel machines. The food had more choices in discovery dining room but standard of waiter service though fast was sometimes a bit abrupt nb telling you where to sit. Oh and there should be more scope for feedback on tours on comment sheet individually and nb on return from trips. The ship joining was excellent but the ship leaving nb porterage was chaotic with mixed messages and we were faced at ghastly worlds worst Manila airport with unexpected airport tax ,a silly embarkation form to fill in walking up to check in and a cramped depature lounge with no toilets. My god are we glad to get home though we did enjoy all the ports and all the port lectures -tourist and history. Oh I nearly forget the internet service is very poor when you can get it- why not in Japan waters -also overpriced and talking about prices charging you £1.95 for water is cheek especially prior to excursions when coach guides give you endless free bottles id total extortion.

Cabin Review

Cabin oustide double

We were disappointed to see our double bed request was not initially met but steward obliged us speedily though there was only room for one bed side table and no dimmable lamp like there is on saga equivalent. The noise levels and stability of our cabin were good. Only on first night was engine or aircon noise disturbing but this got better. The only mechanical problem -a faulty hair dryer was efficiently resolved . A plumbing problem -a blocked toilet was also
