The Good, Bad, and Ugly of Century

The Background: My wife and I are in our early 30's and have no kids. We have been on two other cruises, one on Princess Golden and the other on RCL's Splendour of the Seas. We typically prefer land-based vacations (Aruba, Hawaii, St. Maarten, DR, etc.) because we like being at the beach and large tropical pool around the clock. We also don't like adding up hundreds of receipts for onboard purchases. Nevertheless, we do like cruising every so often to experience new destinations and for the change of pace. So you understand our point of view, we are not snotty people and enjoy value plays for our vacation dollars gravitating towards 3 - 4 STAR resorts like Marriott, Westin, etc. and avoiding the Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, etc. We live in the NYC tri-state area and dine frequently at moderate and high end restaurants. I will say that we had high expectations for Celebrity based on their reputation for being superior to RCL and after not finding RCL anything more than average, at best. We felt that all of the little nice things that Celebrity did were mostly offset by their mishaps and shortcomings. We were hoping Celebrity would be comparable to Princess which we found flawless but, we were wrong. Here is what we experienced and how we came to our conclusion.

The Good: The rooms are nicely appointed (dEcor & TV.) as others have mentioned. Our stateroom attendant, Lazaro, did a nice job except for some other woman's hairs on the shower walls the first day. Keep in mind; I also tipped him extra cash periodically. Most of the bar staff is very attentive. Putu in the Martini Bar is awesome. Jimy (one-M) Taylor at Sunset Bar had a great personality and takes the time to get to know your likes and desires. Most of the public rooms are nicely decorated and the Martini Bar is rather trendy/chic. The gym was modern and clean. Cold towels and drinks at tender on Grand Cayman were a nice touch. Welcome aboard champagne, complimentary beach bags in cabin, and hors de vours at night throughout public rooms were also positively distinguishing features for Celebrity.
