Sail Date: Mar 2013

We booked Liberty of the Seas for our Honeymoon. We were looking for a cruise that left on a Monday so we would have plenty of time to drive to Ft. Lauderdale and not feel rushed. Liberty set sail on Monday for a 5 night cruise to the Western Caribbean. We stayed at the Hilton near the airport the night before which is just a 10 minute drive to the Port. We arrived at the terminal around 10:00 AM and checked our luggage at the curb then went to the parking deck just around the corner. Parking was $15 a day which we did not think was horrible. We had a short line at security and walked right up to the counter to get our seapass cards. We were sitting in the lobby waiting to board by 10:30 AM. After waiting about 15 mins we began boarding and was on the ship just before 11 AM.

This was our first cruise on Royal Caribbean, my second overall, and we were anxious to see the ship. After walking around the entire ship we decided to grab lunch at the Windjammer. We did not expect the huge crowd there. By the time we got to the Windjammer there was not a seat to be found. We grabbed food and waited until we were finally able to find 2 seats. You definitely have to go to the Windjammer early on embarkation day to get a seat. Rooms were ready by 1:00 PM and we were ready to rest for a while. The safety drill went fast and not having to wear the lifejacket was nice. We set sail at 5:00 PM and began to pull out of port before having to return just a few minutes later. Apparently someone became very ill just as we pulled out and had to be taken off the ship before we could sail towards Haiti.

Liberty of the Seas is part of the Freedom class ships and was recently upgraded with a few of the Oasis class features. The ship is very large and there is plenty to do. When you board you enter into the Promenade which is beautiful. Four decks high inside and runs almost the length of the ship. Pool deck was very nice and the added big screen for movies at night and throughout the day was cool. Mini golf and rock climbing wall were towards the back with the basketball court and flowrider. We ran out of time before we got to experience it all. The ship was in remarkable condition!!

Cabin Review

We had a midship starboard side balcony room on deck 6. It was my wife's first cruise and I wanted to make sure she enjoyed it so we booked the balcony room. Now I am hooked and it's going to be hard to sail in anything less. Loved the room! Plenty of room for two and the balcony was worth every dollar. It was so nice to wakeup and sit on the balcony with the nice breeze as we pulled into port. The inroom tv's allow you to access your account and review your charges as well as book excursions, etc. If you are on the fence about getting the balcony room I would definitely recommend spending the little extra.
